you and you and you

Today was nothing short of marvelous. When Collin asked what I wanted to do for Mother's Day a smile lite across my face as I pictured exactly what I'd love to do. It was simple really... pack a lunch, bring a cute (picture worthy;) quilt, an elmo kite, 2 crazy little munchkins and I'll be a happy girl!
While we laughed, chased Avery, played, admired Quincey's curiosity, flew a kite, chased Avery some more-it really hit me. All at once. It doesn't take much for me to be happy. Although I knew it all along sometimes I need a friendly reminder.
all I need is you and you and you... & grape soda.

It's the little things that make us happy, isn't it? :) Happy Mother's Day!

  15. Hey! I enjoy reading your blog and looking at your photos. How do you get such great photos without a bunch of shadows?

Also, on the list of 27 from your birthday blog. On the clothes...here's a new one. Go into your closet with a red pen and put eveything that you just bought on "sale." I had a friend who did this all the time and really impressed her husband with her "great deals." Everything went pretty well until he caught her in her closet "reducing" all the clothes that she had just bought at full price.

Seriously-are you using a filter or something to keep the shadows away? I loved the cookie picture. I could bake those cookies and they would look great, but my picture's lighting would never look like that. I have a great SLR camera, but my pictures don't look like that one--or any of your other ones.. Help!

I was thinking yesterday about how good it felt just to go to Red Robin for lunch with my hubby and my daughter, grab some yummy frappucinos and walk around holding my husband's hand....and chase Madi at the same time ;). I live for these moments. So glad you had a beautiful Mother's Day!

  27. Your pictures always look so vivid and wonderful. Do you use a timer, or a remote, or what to get pics like the first one? I definately think you should do some "family self portaits 101" for Ask Lizzie! Maybe Colin should be a guest in your column...

~~Hi Sally, I think it was cloudy and so there weren't harsh shadows that day. :) Try a different time during the day that won't make harsh shadows faces.

~~Nope I don't have a filter. (what are filters anyway?) I shot the cookies just on my kitchen counter with the window behind them and to the sides. It's all about lighting so move around different windows at different times and find explore where the good light is. I've learned from experience if I set the cookies at the same time on the table the shadows would have been harsh. Find where the good light is for you. :) Hope that helps.

~~haha! That would be awesome. We put the camera on timer & cross our fingers for the result. :) Yes, Collin takes lots of the photos-he's awesome!
Does anyone know if the 50d can use a remote? my canon rebel could but I can't get it to work with my new canon.

~~I set the camera on the grass and set it to 10 second timer then run to the blanket. ha! i was so happily surprised at the result.

~~Hi Deb, what is a filter? What would you want to learn as far as photo lessons go?

  37. what type of lens are you using - your photos are beautiful - your family - GORGEOUS!! you are blessed!

  38. hey Liz!
love your blog! i was wondering where you get the frame's for your pictures, specifically the one that makes it look like a polaroid?? i would to get my hands on one!
    Thanks

  39. I was wondering the same thing as teenage scrapbooker. I love the polaroid look as well as anything that makes a photo look old school. KWIM? And of course I'm in total agreement with everyone else, your family is so beautiful. :)

  40. I am so lost with learning to take better pictures that I don't know what lessons I need. I want to take more Pro like photos and am not sure what I'm doing wrong. I think lighting is a problem for me and I'm too scared I'll miss a good shot if I have my camera on Manuel mode (I like auto "P" and A mode). I also don't know how to use photoshop (I have CS3 but can't figure it out).

    Love your photos!

  41. Liz- filters are like the clear caps you put over your lens- there's diff filters for diff color effects (or creative-ness) that you may want- I think you just use the actions from PS to do the coool color effects right? (here's a example): http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=camera+lens+filters&tag=yahhyd-20&index=electronics&hvadid=18479172011&ref=pd_sl_224ec5sf7g_b

:)As far as the remote- it may not be compatible with your rebel- look up your remote on B&H and see if it will work with whichever rebel you have :)
