good read

Need a new book to dive into... besides Dr Seuss' Ear Book and There's a Cow in the Road! which are both memorized. What's your favorite summer read these days??? Besides Twilight series...

Counting down the days until these two get married... We had a fantastic engagement shoot. This one was for fun and because they are incorporating vintage books into their decor.

  1. The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. They don't look like the type of book I usually read, so I was hesitant to start them. They are SO good though. The reviews on Amazon tell it all. The characters are amazing and I find myself SO worried about them/happy for them/etc. Great books for summer! :-)

  2. I need to tackle the final book in the "girl with the dragon tattoo" series....and hoping to tackle a Jodi Picoult.....possibly "the pact".

  3. I was also going to suggest the Outlander series!!! They are long, but REALLY GOOD! It is a series that you can read a few pages here and there and not HAVE to read until the end but still really enjoy.

  4. People kept telling me to read the Hunger Games and I resisted. Finally gave in and I love it! Can't wait for the third book to come out!

  5. Oh and I forgot to mention that "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett is also an excellent read!

  6. Outlander is fabulous! I am also very much enjoying JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series and Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series this summer!

  11. Love the pic! :) I just finished the Time Traveler's Wife -- such a great love story told in an interesting way. Also been reading Emily Griffin books (Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof and she has a couple more). They are fun summer beach kind of reads :)

  12. I just picked up Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner and I have a lot of Jodi Picoult just itching to jump off the shelf at me. I love all of Jodi's books. I have a ton of books on my Kindle to read as well, including The Help, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and Confessions of a Military Wife (being one myself, I think that will be my next one).

  13. Another vote for The Help and anything Jodi Picoult :)

  17. Oh I can't wait to see everyone's responses because I'm in a book funk right now. The last good book I read was in January and it was Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's a teen book so that might also make it go under Twilight series but I love that book.

  18. If you want a good, funny, easy read you have to get the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. They ae hilarious. THee are 16 in the series, you don't have to start with the first one. They are hilarious!!

  19. I'm really enjoying the Sookie Stackhouse series (the True Blood series is based on the books), it's great to have a strong feminine hero in a book.

  20. I *absolutely* love the photo of your brother and soon-to-be sister-in-law. Your shots are amazing. Definitely an inspiration for me to learn more about digital photography. Summer reading: On the 7th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. A little light undead reading for the summer never hurt anyone :)

Please, please read One Day by David Nicholls. It's a great love story, and I couldn't put it down!

  30. all of my suggestions have been suggested! The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo series, Outlander series, The Hunger Game all were well written, stay-up-too-late-even-though-you-know-the-kids-will-be-up-at-the-crack-of-dawn. I didn't see mentioned, the Dragon Keeper series by Robin Hobb.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The Southern Vampire series, that True Blood is based off of, by Charlaine Harris is a good pick if you're itching for a vampire fix of the grown-up variety.

Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof and Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin are also good. She recently released the fifth book in the series, Heart of the Matter, but I haven't read it yet.

    HTH!

  35. The Hunger Games!! Although it is a teen book, it's an awesome can't-put-it-down read. Also, Catching Fire (the second book in the series of soon to be three). WAYYYYY better than Twilight!

  39. Don't read 'The Time Traveler's Wife' while you are pregnant, especially if you are high risk. I made that mistake last summer and it just made my anxiety even worse.

'The History of Love' by Nicole Krauss is breathtakingly beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I just finished The Lost Girls. Great book.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, very good!

    ReplyDelete

Have just read the girl with the dragon tattoo which is fantastic...once you get past about page 85-90, it's tough going until then...

I am currently reading Major Pettigrew's Last stand...which is very sweet...It's a rather unconventional love story

Next up I have water for elephants by Sarah Gruen which is supposed to be fabulous

If you enjoy crime either of the series by Kerry Greenwood are great, they are different and have great heroines...might be tough to find in the US because she is Australian but there are a few on amazon :)

  51. I just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire. I've moved on to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I read The Magicians earlier in the summer. It's not anything like Harry Potter. It's more like Harry Potter if he had low self-esteem, drank too much, cursed like a sailor, and had sex. It's well-written. I plan on moving on to South of Broad by Pat Conroy and The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova.

I'd also recommend anything by John Green. He is in the YA section. He's one of the best authors I've read in a while. I also loved the first two books of the Hunger Games trilogy. Can't wait until August 24th when the third book comes out.

  52. I just read a couple good ones:

    The Stepmother by Carrie Adams

    The Help by Kathryn STockett

    Still Alice by Lisa Genova

    I also loved:

The Thirteenth Tale by Dianne Setterfield

Whistling in the Dark by Lesley Kagen

Those Who Save Us: Jenna Blum

  61. I just saw your new line on the AC website. It's beautiful! My book choice for the summer are The Girls from Ames. I also agree that the Stephanie Plum series is a riot! It's like the Hardy Boys for grown women.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I love Jennifer Weiner books! Most of her main characters are mothers with a great sense of humor, and I always find myself laughing out loud to some of their quips. My favorites are Little Earthquakes (which follows four women from pregnancy through toddler) and Goodnight Nobody (a motherly spin on the crime novel).

  63. Same Kind of Different as Me and I'm sorry not sure of the authors names....don't have the book any longer as I've passed it along. It's based on a true story and it's a wonderful one at that. LOVE the engagment photos, so very unique:)

  74. Thanks for asking this question, as I have been looking for some good reads, now that our baby is old enough that I can pick up a book again! :) I just finished "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society," which as a fictional story about the occupation of the Guernsey Islands by the Germans in WWII, written as a series of letters between the characters, took me a bit to get into it but it was a wonderful read.

  75. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. Brief summaries of these and some of my other recommendations can be found on my blog here:
