Need a new book to dive into... besides Dr Seuss' Ear Book and There's a Cow in the Road! which are both memorized. What's your favorite summer read these days??? Besides Twilight series...

The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. They don't look like the type of book I usually read, so I was hesitant to start them. They are SO good though. The reviews on Amazon tell it all. The characters are amazing and I find myself SO worried about them/happy for them/etc. Great books for summer! :-)

ReplyDeleteI was also going to suggest the Outlander series!!! They are long, but REALLY GOOD! It is a series that you can read a few pages here and there and not HAVE to read until the end but still really enjoy.
ReplyDeletePeople kept telling me to read the Hunger Games and I resisted. Finally gave in and I love it! Can't wait for the third book to come out!

ReplyDeleteI just finished "The Help" and loved it!! Now I'm reading "The Host" and while it's a bit slow, I find that it's an ok pace for summer =).
ReplyDeleteLove the pic! :) I just finished the Time Traveler's Wife -- such a great love story told in an interesting way. Also been reading Emily Griffin books (Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof and she has a couple more). They are fun summer beach kind of reads :)
ReplyDeleteI just picked up Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner and I have a lot of Jodi Picoult just itching to jump off the shelf at me. I love all of Jodi's books. I have a ton of books on my Kindle to read as well, including The Help, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and Confessions of a Military Wife (being one myself, I think that will be my next one).

Just finished WHERE THE HEART IS n(loved it) and now I'm starting on Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series---so far so good-- 16 LIGHTHOUSE ROAD is the first book of the series.

ReplyDeleteOh I can't wait to see everyone's responses because I'm in a book funk right now. The last good book I read was in January and it was Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's a teen book so that might also make it go under Twilight series but I love that book.
ReplyDeleteIf you want a good, funny, easy read you have to get the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. They ae hilarious. THee are 16 in the series, you don't have to start with the first one. They are hilarious!!

ReplyDeleteI am reading the Millennium trilogy, I am currently on the second book: The girl who played with fire. Its a great series so far! I am patient waiting for August so I can read Mockingjay, the final book of the Hunger Games. That a series that is very addicting.

all of my suggestions have been suggested! The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo series, Outlander series, The Hunger Game all were well written, stay-up-too-late-even-though-you-know-the-kids-will-be-up-at-the-crack-of-dawn. I didn't see mentioned, the Dragon Keeper series by Robin Hobb.
ReplyDeleteThe Southern Vampire series, that True Blood is based off of, by Charlaine Harris is a good pick if you're itching for a vampire fix of the grown-up variety.

I am currently reading Major Pettigrew's Last stand...which is very sweet...It's a rather unconventional love story
Next up I have water for elephants by Sarah Gruen which is supposed to be fabulous
If you enjoy crime either of the series by Kerry Greenwood are great, they are different and have great heroines...might be tough to find in the US because she is Australian but there are a few on amazon :)
...sorry for the long book...I kind of like reading LOL!

I just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire. I've moved on to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I read The Magicians earlier in the summer. It's not anything like Harry Potter. It's more like Harry Potter if he had low self-esteem, drank too much, cursed like a sailor, and had sex. It's well-written. I plan on moving on to South of Broad by Pat Conroy and The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova.
ReplyDeleteI'd also recommend anything by John Green. He is in the YA section. He's one of the best authors I've read in a while. I also loved the first two books of the Hunger Games trilogy. Can't wait until August 24th when the third book comes out.

ReplyDeleteI love Jennifer Weiner books! Most of her main characters are mothers with a great sense of humor, and I always find myself laughing out loud to some of their quips. My favorites are Little Earthquakes (which follows four women from pregnancy through toddler) and Goodnight Nobody (a motherly spin on the crime novel).

ReplyDeleteI love all of Mary Kay Andrews books, they are excellent. Table for Five and Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs are really good as well. LOVE the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. And just read Best Friends by Jennifer Weiner which was great. Next up is Water for Elephants and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

Thanks for asking this question, as I have been looking for some good reads, now that our baby is old enough that I can pick up a book again! :) I just finished "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society," which as a fictional story about the occupation of the Guernsey Islands by the Germans in WWII, written as a series of letters between the characters, took me a bit to get into it but it was a wonderful read.
