simple things

Today I was on Studio 5 via telephone for a few minutes to talk about monthly merriment. It's a peek into the simple things I love at the moment. After the show I realized I haven't shared April yet.

(Jellies from Old Navy, thread, a cute apron from Lucy at Scrap Etc, new plant symbolizes the new life springtime brings, Lenka cd (Avery is singing her songs now-so cute), this book that is FULL of inspirational quotes and questions with journaling spots. (Love all the books by Dan Zadra.) Scarlet Lime paper & Martha Stewart strawberries, Studio G letter stamps & Anthropologie bowl.

Reading Avery books from when I was a little girl and my first dogeared necklace--very cool/inspiring jewelry... I've been wanting one forever but it's much more fun when it's a gift. (thanks, you know who you are...xo)

Collin lived in Taiwan for a couple years while serving a mission and said people there absolutely love lotus flowers because of their symbolism... The quote that came with this lotus fower necklace inspired me after reading your many wishes & then even more when I found out yesterday that someone very close to me has been diagnosed with cancer...

"Lotus flowers grow from muddy swamps into beautiful symbols of creation & rebirth..." remember your own beauty and strength.

PS. Do you love this song as much as I do? Zee Avi is her name.

You are so inspiring! We were 'watching' you talk on the phone at the doctors office I work at and we were all awed! Kind of stupid, but FYI I got the cutest jellies at the new smith's marketplace in Alpine (?) for like $6.

Liz-
Sorry to hear about your friend. Love the inspirational book, what's the title of the one you have? If you got a tattoo to represent you're love of scrapbooking...what would you get? I want to get a new tattoo and can't really put my finger on what to get to represent scrapbooking!

You stole that idea from Real Simple, Martha Stewart, whatever. You're completely unoriginal.

Even flowers have to grow through dirt. (from Dr Laura's book that talks about how you can have a wonderful life even if you had a cruddy childhood)

This is so much fun! I love the idea of gathering things that make you happy now.

I'm normally not one to comment just to say what everyone else has already said, but today... I just found out yesterday that my SIL has cervical cancer and I guess it doesn't look good. I don't know what to do for them... she is so young. My heart breaks for their little family.

thanks for the comments:

Carrie, the book I wrote my name in is 'Young Years' by Augusta Baker. I love old books too :)

Anonymous, the actual monthly merriment is inspired by many different magazines but 'Real Living' especially... I talked about how it inspired me here http://elizabethkartchner.blogspot.com/2009/02/monthly-merriment.html

Amy, the book in the photo is called '5' and talks about where you want to be in 5 years. I also have a smaller, simple one I like with thoughtful quotes titled 'ever wonder'. let me know what you decide :)

have a great day

I'm reading Lisa See's "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" as part of a little book club at Studio Calico. Did you know that the lotus flower is symbolic of footbinding? Have you ever googled it before? I think that their feet look like high heeled shoes. I wonder if that's where the idea came from? Anyway....
