going green

I wanted to do something last week in honor of Earth week but was super duper busy-better late than never right? (Did I say super duper?-too much Barney for me;) I don't bleed green or anything but I do love the chance to be crafty & friendly to Mother Earth at the same time. So, I bought some reusable grocery sacks and got crafty by sewing this recycle sign onto one. I am actually happily surprised with how much I like these bags. For 1 they hold a lot more than I thought and 2 they don't rip when I am carrying them up the stairs and trying to coax Avery inside at the same time. Hmmm. How does that work with two kids? :) I guess I will find out soon enough!!

Oh wow Liz! What a great idea! I have been contemplating on buying those reusable shopping bags. For one they look darling and two, I would totally be green! *smile*

And I have no idea how that would work with two kids. Ay..makes me scared to think about it when we try for another baby this summer! *shivers*
Have a great week!

My problem is always forgetting the reusable bag at home and then when I'm in the check-out line, I realize how I wish I had it!

Very cutting-edge and cute!

Those are so cute Liz... leave it to you to come up with the cute idea! I bought some of those bags too & am amazed by how much they hold too! I told the cashier at the register that I was trying to do my part in saving the earth and I really LOVE the change (I get annoyed at all those little Wal Mart plastic bags).

Take care - Stacey

Those are adorable! I think I will also use this idea on a layout I've been wanting to do about starting to recycle :) Thanks for the inspo!
PS You'll be amazed the things you can do when you have 2 :) Mine are 13 months apart and I used to carry them BOTH + groceries up the stairs! I can't imagine doing it now but I did it just fine back then-it was 5 years ago.

How fun!! Did you hand cut and hand sew these on?

cheeziemommie, you are my idol- carrying 2 kiddos and groceres!

Heidi,
yes I cut out the arrows then the fabric and sewed it on the bag. The only hard part was not sewing the bag shut!!

I love how the turguoise goes to green and the green goes to turquoise and green and then back into turquoise! Don't know if you planned it like that but I notice those kinds of things LOL.

So adorable! If you sold those on etsy or something, I'd definitely buy one! :]

Love them!!! I have some ugly blue ones..Ill have to spiff mine up some!!!

For Sara/everyone: I used to forget mine all the time too. But I leave them next to my sons carseat and then I see them when I get him out. (Then you just have to remember to put them back in, LOL)

Super Cute, as always! I wonder if you have a garage? I usually keep the little one in his car seat until i get all the bags in the house. I have those same sort of grocery bags... love love love them..> I leave them in the back of the van so they are available whenever I get to the store. I was going to put ribbon on mine. that is such a great idea Elizabeth! :)

I have a few of those bags, and I always forget them at home! I love your recycle arrows though! It must have been tricky to sew on!

Oh, and on going to the store with multiples. Just wait until your husband is home! LOL!

This bag is so cute! I think I might make me some! I have kind of an out of the blue question for you...I am thinking about submitting my work for SOY! I am wondering if you could go to my blog, check out my pages and see what you think! I know this sounds probably stupid, and that you are busy, but I would really appreciate it. Also, I would love to start something where I could get out there more and possibly making an income from my ideas or work, any ideas? mrserinjohnson.blogspot.com

Very cute! I bought several of those bags when I was pregnant and just loooove them. You can get so much in them, and the nice long handles make them easy to carry on your shoulder like a purse. Perfect for when you have kiddo #1 by the hand (or in the cart), and kiddo #2 in the baby bjorn. (i.e. the only way I can go to the grocery store and have room in the cart for actual groceries.)

Psst...girls, when you unload your groceries put the bags right back in your car for the next time. Then when you get in the store put them under the cart and not in it - or they get all the groceries/kids stacked on top of them so that you can't get to them to put them on the little conveyor belt first, before your groceries, in the checkout line. Which you have to do or the checker will start to bag your groceries in plastic bags and then sigh all drama like and roll his eyes when he has to unbag them. Or so I've heard... :)

I love the bag, Elizabeth! So creative! Any chance you might share with us where you got the bags from and can you share the arrow template you used? So fun!

I'm enjoying your creativity translating from paper to fabrics. Thanks for this fun (and practical) idea!

BTW-- you'd have to add the "DEE" into the middle of the "Super Duper" to have officially gone overboard on the Barney quotes. :)

I have been meaning to personalize my bags, but keep leaving them in the car (which is what I do so I don't leave them at home when I go to the store.) I too love how much they hold! I have 5 and I think I have only ever once used all 5 when shopping. Thank for the cute inspiration.

I LOVE this! I am totally going to do this with my recently purchased reusable bags. It makes the standard-issue supermarket bag reflect personal style. LOVE it. Thank you for the inspiration.

The recycle bag idea is SOOO cute! Good idea, Elizabeth! :-) I guess I need to find some of those wonderful things around these parts sometime. I haven't seen them around, though. Hmmm...

I wish you the best with two little ones and stairs.

Oh I love the bags! Where did you get the bags? Do you know what the name is of the fabric you used? Could you post the pattern you used? Sorry for so many questions! I just love them! I hate coming home from the grochery store with all kinds of paper or plastic bags!

Elizabeth-
I wanted to tell you about a new product that you might really love! I read your blog all the time and I've seen the vinyl rub-ons you have put up on your walls (the birds and chandalier). I am a demonstrator for a company called Uppercase Living. You can go to their website to view the catolog at www.uppercaseliving.com and go to the customer corner. Use 877591 for the login and Martin for the token. There are tons of quotes and expressions that you can get in a wide range of colors. You can also get embellishments in lots of different sizes (and colors!) and create custom ones! It's really awesome and I just thought I would tell you about it! (I didn't know your email so that's why I posted this info. on here! Sorrry!)
