find you.

Sometimes it can be scary to stretch ourselves & to try something new. At least for me... because I get too comfortable & it seems easier to remain stagnant... but when we can let go and set ourselves free we can be closer to finding who we are.

Twenty ten has started off with a bang & I find myself refocusing on my aspirations including what really is important to me. Only one of my many goals is still staying strong... Which is good because I'm quite certain it is the most important and meaningful one. I hope to keep going everyday this year. I think I can I think I can...
Just like many previous years my "eat less crap" goal lasted about 46 hours. Okay okay... I mean 11 hours.
Something that I hope to instill in my girl's hearts now is to "be you." So they can avoid changing who they are to fit in the right crowd instead be proud of their own uniqueness. Now... how in the world do you do that? :)
I don't have photo credits for the above photos so if anyone knows who they belong to... fill me in. :)

LOVE this so much.
After just watching Heidi Montag's story of 10 plastic surgeries and having my jaw dropped wide open, this is all at once ironic and wonderful. If only someone had told her that years ago.
thanks for sharing and always inspiring!

I FINALLY got a chance to gobble up your book. I've had it for weeks, but wanted to find just the right time to truly take it all in. Being a mother to 21 month old twins doesn't give me much time, but believe it or not it took having jury duty to get the time. I was the happiest potential juror that day in the waiting room with your book and my post its!!! You're the best!!!

My single goal as a mother to a son and daughter is to have them grow up proud of who they are. You would think that is simple, yet it's the most challeging thing (and proudest if I even get it a little right) that I will ever do.

Surrounding myself with people like you make it a bit easier

We are all uniquely created with the incredible power to become like our creator. Although a very distant future for most of us, I hope that my offspring can remember their divine heritage and allow that to guide them.

what a wounderful thought to start the new year with - the real "you".. is your most beautiful self...

That is just so beautiful. It's one of the little phrases I try to remind myself and one that I use in my scrapbook pages of my kids. It's so important....thanks so much for sharing!

What beautiful words & how true - something I definately need to work on - the changing part to become who I am. I'm stuck in a job I hate but the bills gotta get paid & I would never but more burdens on my kids just to realize & find who I am. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
I'm gonna print it out really big, in a gorgeous font & put it where I can see it every day.

I love that and could not agree more! Great inspiration for starting off 2010. Thanks!

What wonderful inspiration! To answer the question - I think it comes down to staying away from all the comparisons to others! Being the unique creation God made and not trying to be anything else! Those little ones of yours will be so much farther ahead when they get older if they learn to be happy with who they are - not being someone else! Great job, mom!

Someone on FB is meeting with a group of girls today and asked for advice from her followers. Oddly enough, my suggestion was just what you said. Be yourself. My mother always said it to me and I didn't always understand the deeper meaning. But now it means everything to me.

Love the post. I struggle with the same thing with my boys... I want them to be themselves since they are wonderful just being that. I encourage them and praise them... And for the most part they are themselves... but every once in a while... they are influenced by their peers. That is something I always call them out on. I just hope by the time they are teenagers they will be happy in their own skin to know that it is ok to be themselves all the time. :D

Lizzy,

I love your blog and want to mention three things.

1. I love your music on here. Often I leave it on while I'm doing other things on the computer

2. I too have been pushing my boundaries. So I appreciate this post. I have started a blog about my passion (food and cooking).
www.TheRedPineapple.com

3. I have an Avery too. A boy though. Avery Jonas.

Thanks

Your post was perfect for me today.. I am stagnant and afraid of stepping out of my protective coil. I needed to hear that someone of "your" beauty and talent feels the same battle.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HONEST..

It seems I am always searching for the real me, trying to find myself. I know this is a necessity if I ever want to teach my daughter to be true to herself.

Great photo and post.

Your words really hit home with me today! I have been having the struggle with following my heart for some time now and finally think that I am ready to take the leap:) Be you. Find you. Be happy with that. Words to live by!! Thank you for being awesome:)

This part of your post
"So they can avoid changing who they are to fit in the right crowd instead be proud of their own uniqueness."
Hit me like a brick. I am just NOW proud of my own uniqueness and it has unlocked a richer life in the last three years than the past 30 years I spent trying to be someone else. Your girls are lucky to have such a thoughtful Mom. Thanks for the honest words.

Lucado's book, "The Oak inside the Acorn" is great for reinforcing this truth. We are created just the way we are for a purpose. Celebrate it!
Enjoy!

I love your post! My goal this year is to try and recognize my talents...I think it is hard sometimes to see how great we really are. All of us are unique and have been given our OWN special talents. If we could all only see our own individual worth!!
Thanks!

I reread this post often:
http://www.ordinarycourage.com/my-blog/2008/8/26/like-mother-like-superhero.html

I need to constantly remind myself that our kids soak us in---much more than our words but all of who we are. The more we are okay with ourselves and fearless of being "uncool", the more resilient they'll be. I believe it.
