Slurp your photos

To Blog or not to blog? That is the question.

It's a big joke when I'm around the Kartchner fam because whenever Em or I pull out our cameras everyone wonders if their pictures will be on our blogs tomorrow. You may even hear "this better not be on your blog!" (Making blackmail more attainable.) Or Collin's favorite, "If you don't blog it-did it really happen?" :)
My layout above about blogging is seen in my November Dear Lizzy column for Creating Keepsakes where I address your every blog need and offer a smokin' cool coupon code... just keep reading. :)

A bit ago I asked my awesome blog readers if anyone knew how to publish a blog into a book & a bunch of you mentioned Blurb. I was extremely excited because I spend a lot of time blogging and refer to it as my online journal but I couldn't picture myself, or my kiddos, someday sitting at the computer for hours reading posts. What I can picture is them flipping through the pages of our blog book at the end of each year & years to come. To sum it up, included in my Dear Lizzy column you'll find that Blurb wants to offer Creating Keepsakes readers 10 bucks off your next book! Just click here for the promotion code (creatingkeepsakes10). It expires November 30th right before their busiest season. I've had a blast creating mine and reminiscing. When blurb 'slurps your photos' it's like watching your life flash before your eyes. :) Are you excited yet? I am!

I totally think blogging counts as journaling. Great memories for our kids. It's easier and more fun to blog than write in a journal.

I'm still a bit grrh with Blurp. I won a book by them and never heard back from them.

I can't wait to blurb my blog. That will be the final step in completing my 2008 New Year's Resolution.

I was so excited to open up my latest CK and see this article of yours! It's the most perfect way to turn our blogs into cherished memories. You're right--blogging is like instant scrapbooking! I am definitely asking for a blurb book for Christmas this year!

We have a family blog dedicated to my great grandparents that passed away in the last year...I think this would be a good way to keep their memories alive...thanks for the suggestion!

OH YAY!!! I am so excited to do this! I have been thinking about it...because my personal blog is my journal, too! I would love having it in a book format! Have you actually done this and how did it turn out?

My husband made a blog book for my birthday in 2006. I absolutely loved it and we made another one last year and definitely plan on doing one at the end of this year. I love flipping through it and I am so happy that I will have it for years to come. I hope my kids will enjoy them as much as I do.

Hi liz!
I read your blog often and I love your article in CK. This last one was a favorite. I have been blogging for over a year and would love to make a book. I looked at it awhile back when you mentioned this company.. love the idea. I have a few questions for you..
if you've made the book, how long does it take? I guess I'm curious at how long of a process it is to upload posts and pictures? an evening or a week? do you choose pic size? I usually post quite a few pics in a post. I'd love to hear more on the process you've experienced.
also on this layout you have here that was also published.. how do you take and print your photos for a layout like this? I love it!
Thanks for sharing all the great stuff you come across:)
Thanks for inspiring me with everything from your ideas to your music!

Hi Elizabeth,

You don't know me, I just come visit now and again, and I'm always SO inspired. Not just by your many talents, but by your marriage.

In fact, I've awarded you, if you ever have time to come check it at my blog.

Thanks for sharing your life, thoughts and creativity. I'm inspired!

Hi Liz. I've only been blogging a couple of months and love it! Your blog and Heidi Swapp's were "must reads" when I wasn't really sure what a blog was! Thanks for all the inspiration:)

Wow. I'd have to be totally selected about what posts went in..some posts are meant for my readers, not my kids (who I'm definitely not talking about.)

Your book looks so pro! I'm wondering how my long-windedness about nothing would translate to a real book! That sort of scares me!

Neat idea! I so view my blog as my journal. I have been doing it for so long that I can hardly remember ever writing in paper journals =). Thanks for the beautiful idea! Great deal!

Liz-I was wondering...
Today I uploaded my blog for 2007. The one that you did what size did you end up getting? I can't decide between the 7x7 or the portrait 10x8. Some blog entries I have little pics, some I have a lot, and others there aren't any. I'm also wondering if you understand what color the actual book will be. So far it looks as if the entire color of my front page is light blue...not sure how that happened. Sorry so many questions...
Thanks in advance for your help.
Love this blog!

I am a newbie! I just started blogging, right now I feel it to be a little challenging to write more than a two paragraph blog, but I'm getting there.

Thank for the Blurb idea!

Liz, What kind of camera do you have?

EmmaJ said...

Elizabeth, how did you create your book since you use blogger? I went to blurb and downloaded the software, but it doesn't convert from blogger. Please email me or do a post addressing some of the other questions too. THANK YOU!

What a good idea Lizzy!!!! I tried it, but it wouldn't let me upload from blogger:( I can't wait to see yours!!! It will be so cute! Thanks for talking to me the other day!!! I love ya!

Hi Lizzy, I love your blog and was not sure what the heck one was, until I started reading your's. I just started one of mine last week, and am definately considering it my journal and am using it as storage for journalling until I have time to add it to a scrapbook page.
Also, have you had any negative experiences since you've started blogging? I am a little worried about that... I would also be curious to know what camera you use.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I am planning to do this after I get a year's worth of blogging in. I am like you; I would rather see all my memories in book vs re-reading through them on line. There's just something about having it in scrapbook form!!

Your book looks great!! =)

I tried to slurp my blog last night only to find out that blurb.com's code is not communicating with Blogger's code with no fix anticipated in the near future! According to the blog post the break happened around Sept 26. Blurb still works with Live Journal and Typepad...

i'm thinking, my blog is kinda boring.. will it be worth it to print it out? hmmmm.... still thinking :D

Thanks for figuring this out for all of us. I really like this idea and I think I see a family gift under the tree this year. Hmmm....

I just finished making a book for 2007 of my blog (I figured I do yearly editions). It wasn't that bad having to copy/paste everything since I use blogger, but it would have been nice to be able to slurp it.

noel joy said...

i just downloaded their software last week. now i need them to fix the blogger code so i can slurp. :D

Hi Liz,
I went to blurb to check out the website and their video that shows how to "slurp" for blog says that no longer support blogger. Do you know of another website that you can do this that does support blogger?
Thanks
