dear lizzy q & a

I think I might have been in denial about my Dear Lizzy column in CK. It was so so fun and surreal for me, being a reader for years, to have my own article. I loved it. Creating Keepsakes made some changes to the magazine but I am still a Contributing Writer for them. yay! With three pages in a fun article coming up so keep your eyes peeled.
I've been thinking that it would be quite fun to continue the Dear Lizzy question and answer format on my blog. Not just because I purchased a cute, new folder that I am anxious to fill. Mainly, I enjoy hearing from you, love finding solutions, offering support and answering questions.

So, here's how it works:
-Think of a question. (Any sort of question, it could have to do with a past project I've shared here, scrapbooking, photography, blogging, life, crafts or anything. Well, not anything. ;)
-Email me your question: elizabeth.kartchner(at)gmail(dot)com
-If I choose your question for upcoming blog posts you will receive happy mail from me... because a little bribery never hurt anyone.

I'll start of with a popular question:
Dear Lizzy,
... I remember a while back when you posted about painting your scrapbook room and you posted the color. However, I can't seem to find it. Would you be so kind to tell me the name and brand of the paint you used. I would love to use that color in my laundry room. And I am actually feeling inspired at the moment to get off my booty and give my laundry room a makeover. I would love to hear back from you.
Keep up the awesome work!
Chrisanna

Hi Chrisanna,
It is my favorite paint color! Made by Ralph Lauren called Sun Washed Blue. Purchased at Home Depot. Thanks.

Can't wait to read your questions!

I agree with @Kelsey!! I LOVED Dear Lizzy in CK!! So glad you are continuing it on your blog.

How did you come up with your kids' cute names? I absolutely love that their initials are Q & A. Infact, when I read your post title I thought I would be reading about you and your cute girls! :) I'm not disappointed though!

oooh this is fun! I always want to know where you get your shoes...so just add to every q & a the shoes you're wearing and where you got them, and I'll never have to bombard your inbox. thanks {wink!}

I agree with mj! I am not happy about ck changing their mag to every other month. I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth now! I also miss you, becky and ali and check your blogs regularly! Very excited to see what questions people ask!

Oh Lizzy. I am very unhappy with CK, I even e-mailed them last week to complain about reducing their issues from 12 to 8 and not telling us readers in advance (I never complain). I received an e-mail in return to say that there'd be just as much in the double issues as they would be in two singles. Two days later the double issue arrived and not only was it no thicker than a single issue but they'd got rid of your column and Becky's. I am not impressed and will be contacting them again. I feel really disappointed that my favourite magazine has gone down hill so fast. Sorry, enough of my moans. I am very, very glad that you have a blog that can inspire me. Thank you. xx (BTW You inspired me with your 'Love Seat' layout design, you can see my take on it on my blog, oh a layout using your lovely flowery ribbon!)

I have to agree with so many readers above - so disapointed with the direction CK is taking. Your column was my favorite! So glad you have a blog with all sorts of yummy inspiration. And I've got so many great ideas for song downloads listening to your playlists! :)

I'm excited! I loved your column and was so sad to see it go! I was wondering were you go to when you're looking for inspiration?
Second, I always have trouble with journaling (as many of us do) and I was wondering what your process is for journaling?
I was also wonering if you could show us all your process of designing a page? I always love seeing other peoples processes...so inspiring. Thanks for continuing Q&A here on your blog!

GREAT q&a idea. Will definitely be emailing you w/ some questions I have about this so-called "hobby" (a.k.a. addiction) of our's.

Have to agree with everyone else. I am so disappointed in CK and have not enjoyed the magazine since you, Ali & Becky, all my favorites, quit contributing. I didn't even know that they had reduced the number of issues until reading the comments posted here. I don't plan on renewing my subscription. Love your blog and your book.

I was also disappointed that you no longer had your own column in CK. I think the owners of the mag made a huge mistake. Yours was always the 1st I turned to to read. The mag is not what it used to be and I doubt I will reup!! One reason is that I feel as though I payed for getting a CK mag every month and now that is not going to happen. Maybe you can tell the editors how we all feel!!! I check your blog everyday so please keep showing us your beautiful layouts. I need some spring inspiration!!!

MeganKP said...

i love the handwriting font on your blog! What font is it? or is it your own? if it's your own have you given any thought to making your own font? i know that Ali Edwards and Becky Higgins have their own font, and i would LOVE to add yours to my "collection"!

They Xed your column?! Oh no! What are they thinking? I know they're in some $$ trouble, but whey eliminate the best parts of the magazine? Sigh... well I do love following your blog and I'm so glad you'll still do Dear Lizzy here. I hope you'll still share layouts with your answers like you did in the magazine.
I can think of so many questions I'd like to ask you, but where to begin...?

Gloria said...

I was soo disappointed when I received the CK mag and didnt find your column there, since it was the first article I turned to...Im soo glad you decided to continue with the Dear Lizzy Q&A here in your blog...
I would love to know about your scrapbooking process and how you come up with the great color combos you use in your layouts!!!

I would like to know if you do any digital or hybrid scrapping and if you have ever thought of making digital templates. I love your work, have just stepped over to digi, and would love to have some Elizabeth Kartchner templates!

Thanks for all the question I'm receiving via email...

I know it can be difficult with change...
I've been sad to see many of my favorite publications ending so I'm happy to see CK rise above it. I am loving their recent issues!

I got all comfy with my CK when it arrived and flipped and flipped looking for your column...ugh! I'm so sad it is no longer there. It was the first thing I turned too each time! Kinda' glad my subscription expires soon.

I am glad that you let us into your life here, and when you still contribute to CK and wherever else you pop up. Love that the Q&A is alive and well - just in a different spot that is all.

Kris said...

Dear Lizzy,
I have been thinking about your column for the last couple months since I hadn't seen so glad your are continuing on here. I will be sure to send in some questions. Love, love, love your inspiration!

alyangsmom said...

I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with CK's decision to reduce the number of issues printed for the year, from 12 to 8. If the issues with two months are to be called "double" it would stand to reason they would be thicker than the single month issues, but they are not. In fact, I think this current March/April issue is even slimmer than the February issue! I miss seeing Ali, Becky and now you in the magazine, I am glad you will continue inspiring us on your blog! God bless you and your sweet little family!

first...love, love, love your attitude, style (from scrapbooking to home decor to shoes!), and over all fun nature.
my questions: i think you maybe have said this before, but what photoshop actions/techniques do you tend to use on your photos?
would love a tutorial or two on some of the other crafty goodness you do... like the cute hair bows your girls sometimes wear.
thanks for the opportunity to shoot or most burning questions:-)

like most others I'm not thrilled with the new approach CK has taken. I was REALLY ticked that they changed it from 12 to 8 issues without notifying suscribers. I was waiting and waiting for March to arrive and I just got it last week to see it is March/April. I understand you are happy you are still on with CK but I'm so bummed that your column is gone. Glad you are doing your own Q&A!

Dear Lizzy! You have made my day complete! I am SO excited for the next issue of CK with YOU, YOU, YOU! See, now I don't have to act like an irrational fool and do something as stupid as cancel my CK subscription. (you're not just saying this so that I keep my subscription, are you?) Just kidding, I'm on cloud nine & I'm a dork. Sorry. Love your blogs! Love your LO's. The flutter LO is beautiful. I wish you could be my mentor...do you need an assistant? a chiropractor? just kidding. :) Happy St. Pat's Day! It's an extra special day for us...my daughter turns 3! "Time Flies" so true!!!!

Ok, here's my question... Every time I see that hutch that is in your house, the one you guys take pictures with it in the background every once in a while, it's turquiose... I fall in love. Seriously. The kind of love where you get all giddy and start painting everything in your house turquiose just to find the right color. Did you paint that? What color did you use if you did And, if you ever want to get rid of it, you know who to call! Thanks. :0)

I know that CK going from 12 to 8 is a bummer, but with all the scrap mags just shutting down in this economy, I think that a fewer issues is better than no issues.

I love your style and your blog and your happy outlook. I'm curious if there is a 'dark side' to Lizzy? Do you ever just get so stinkin angry that you yell and scream and throw shoes?! Maybe that is another Collin Q&A...

Thanks

This is such a great idea. My question is where do you find all your fabulous skinny jeans? I have been on an endless search for jeans that are priced right, fit good, and don't terribly stretch out. I would love to know your advice! Thank you so much for doing this. I cannot wait to see your answer!

I thought of a question!

I LOVE greeting cards...I love finding just the right one that expresses how I'm feeling, and I love sending them as small surprises to my friends and family.

That said, I've received so many that mean a lot to me. I just toss many, but I keep special ones. I had surgery a few years ago, for example, and am still holding on to some of the "get well" cards that friends had sent me.

I'm trying to come up with a creative way to scrapbook them! I've thought about just binding them all together some how in a minibook (with rings or ribbon or something), or storing them in a photo storage box, but I'm not super crazy about those ideas.

I was wondering if you have any ideas! :)

Love your book, your blog and all the happiness that surrounds you...One question...Do you print your own pictures at home? If so, what printer do you use? Or do you get them processed, if so, where...Your pictures are always so clear. Of course, you have perfect sweet little things to take pics of, so I can't imagine them not turning out "perfect"...thanks, your blog is one of my favorites...oh and I love your playlist. I play it all the time at work and at home!

Okay heres another question thats been on my mind. I have recently tried my first pack of Nestabilities and was thinking about replacing my punches with them. What is your feeling on this. Do you prefer punches or Nesties or BOTH (as my husband shudders at the thought lol). Thanks Liz for a great blog and for always offering us silly scrappers such inspiration!
