quirks

Blogging again from 10,000 feet in the air on my way to Craft & Hobby show in Chicago. I've never been to Chicago and don't know how much of it I will get to see, but I'm excited.

Me and My Quirks is a layout using some of the new Dear Lizzy goodies debuting at the show.
The center square of paper has this cool, green design on it and is called "Charming Collin." ha! He is charming and the reason I made this flight since I had to make a quick detour to the DMV on my way here... but that's another story. I figured out that Collin has super hero powers for all that he does for me & as a daddy.
So back to my quirks. Here's the hidden journaling for the page:
I'm too lazy to dry my hair so it's usually messy curly.
Since I was a little girl I insist on lifting my feet up while driving over rail road tracks. Once I missed one and made Collin reverse over them while raising my feet.
I despise TV but wouldn't miss 30 Rock.
I chew on the ends of pens.
I have issues with folding and putting away laundry. I need to take this domestic duty more seriously... Collin picks up the slack on this one.
I do love being organized but right now my studio is a disaster.
I change my outfit at least 3 times a day. Collin refers to this as Cher's wardrobe changes.
I like to eat healthy but like peach o's and cinnamon rolls more.
I don't like when people can hear me sing at church etc but while driving with the radio turned way up-all inhibitions go out the window.
Every time I fly I ask for Ginger Ale. Wondering why it's the only time I ever drink it because it's quite refreshing. (Sipping it right now.)
Share something quirky about you... because I think I've revealed too much. ;)

I never miss 30 Rock either! I so want to try Cheesy Blasters - or maybe I just like Meat Cat!

Hysterical! I, too, ask for Ginger Ale every time I fly, and that is the only time I ever drink it.

nancy said...

I won't eat cooked fruit. Yes, that includes pie! It's an abomination.

Trisha Carrillo said...

My quirk: I do not like my food to touch and insist on getting a new fork if it was in salad to pasta, etc. I think it is sooo gross! :P

Laci J said...

Love your quirks page. I despise TV also, but will watch HOUSE and 30 Rock when they come out on DVD, oh and The Office I have to own. My issue is with doing the dishes and my hubby picks up the slack on that one ALL the time. I cant stand to sing at church and always insist on singing ONLY 1 hymn when I get the say. And any time I'm sitting I have to have my legs up, sitting indian style or something... at restaurants, while on the computer, in the car, hehe!

It drives me nuts when some of the hangers are hanging backwards in the closet and when there is a bad thunderstorm I hide in bed with my kids under the covers.

I'm pretty quirky, too. hmmm...I love LOVE ice cream, but I really hate any flavors with a swirl. I don't like Jello. I rub my feet together when I'm relaxing (and my little girls do it, too!). I have an obsession with fabric and paper - I hate to use it because I want to still have it to look at. Often when I use my favorites, I run online and order more just so I'll still "have" them. And I also have a problem keeping up with the laundry. :)

Have a blast in Chicago! Can't wait to see all the pictures and I'm loving all your new stuff!!

hi!! love your page and can't wait to get my hands on these goodies!!
my quirks: i hate folding socks and think it is the most stupid thing to do on earth! i can not have a plant in the house without it dying straight away (apart from orchids!!),i am so addicted to scrapbook supplies i order online behind my husband's back once in a while!!! here you are!! noone is perfect and especially not me!!

I like my chocolate frozen. It lasts so much longer that way. It can take me an hour to eat a Cadbury Creme Egg at Easter.

elizabeth kartchner said...

ahahaha. getting a kick out of these comments.

me too sophie... ALL the plants in my house die... except one that was my dads.

Love your quirks page, I am also not a fan of laundry, I don't even fold it, just shove it into the drawers, but I do have to make sure it's ironed...also hate cooked fruit, have to have some kind of chocolate every day and have to listen to Mariah Carey in the car daily, and sing along with it (I don't sound anything like her, believe me, it's pretty bad!) Enjoy Chicago, sounds like a blast!

Awesome page!!

I love lists - love checking off and crossing out things I've accomplished!!

My WEIRD quirky thing - in my kitchen, the front of the label needs to be facing the front of the cabinet or the fridge. I've been known to go back into the fridge JUST to turn a container the RIGHT WAY. Don't even get me started on the organization quirk I have! LOL
Hugs & Happy Days!

I hate hot beverages: coffee, tea, hot chocolate....but I LOVE iced coffee, iced tea and chocolate milk.

haha love this list..... I am a hair twirler!!!!! still to this day do i twirl AND sometimes i still get my finger tangled!!! ekkkkk!!!!

btw thanks for taking part in our Stars competition over in little New Zealand...we have had a blast scrapping YOUR style!!!!

Mandy said...

I do the same with Ginger Ale! Ever since I was little. I don't even know that I've ever had it not on a plane.

Love that you called the paper Charming Collin :)

Unknown said...

I am as quirky as the day is long!
I twirl my hair when I drive.
I can sing a mean Old McDonald in the car; I hope no one ever hears me because the animal noises are scary!! Ha! I am singing to my kids by the way!! :)
I despise laundry, it is always in a big pile on the floor...I never EVER fold socks...that would be a part time job in my household! 10 feet..no way!
I love love love reality tv!!! The drama to me is so funny! Those Kardashians girls!! love it!
Have a great trip; I can't wait to see your new line!

thearthurz said...

Some quirks - I hate socks and refuse to wear them unless it is snowing or below freezing. There are many, many more! :)

Anna said...

I eat pizza backwards... started when I was little because I didn't like the crust so i'd eat it first. and I also eat my hamburgers upside down... don't know why exactly, and I'm noticing I have some funny food quirks. will have to scrapbook that.
Can't wait to see pictures of the CHA booth and get my hands on the new lines!

Karen said...

I have a certain routine in the morning. If I don't do things in order it throws my whole day off!

Jennifer DeWolfe said...

LOL ... I do the railroad thing too. I also do the hold your breath when you pass a graveyard. Don't know why but that's what my grandmother told us we had to do - I think it was so that she could have a moment of peace :)

Have a safe trip!

Unknown said...

Quirks is easy! It's funny how many people have them ;D I have to get ready the same way every day or I get all messed up. And I HATE to clean (my mother picks up the slack in our house since my husband and I both hate it and yes, that includes laundry, dishes, etc.). When I was working my desk had to be very orderly, neat nice stacks in order of priority - at home, not so much... ;D

Jennifer said...

I actually like doing the laundry...the smell of fabric softener makes me feel cozy. I hate doing the socks however. About a year ago, I stopped. I throw them all into a big bin and the family just gets them out of there.

amytangerine said...

way too many quirks to list here- but am with you on the ginger ale one! i also don't like real ginger, like at sushi restaurants. and i can't talk on the phone using my right ear, i have to hold the phone to my left. have so much fun in chi-town, it's my hometown! eat a potbelly sandwich please! (i usually get the Wreck or Italian)

Elisa said...

such a beautiful page :)
love your quirks
i´ll think about mine, i guess i have many LOL

Jennifer B. said...

Ok, here we go ;)... I can not stand the sound of a ringing telephone or running water. I hate seeing open cabinet doors and drawers, I must shut them. I like to was dishes and laundry, but hate putting it away. I still sleep with my little baby blanket. I have to correct people when they use bad grammar.

Yeah... I think that is about it ;) hahaha

Wendy said...

I have to wipe off the countertops and stove before I can start cooking anything. Have fun in Chicago!

Alison said...

Lovely lovely page. Can you list what butterfly punch you used (if it is a punch)? It's such a great size. As for quirks, I've got a weird one where I need to eat my food in an even numbers of bites. The first bite is chewed on the right side and the last bite needs to end on the left. So bizarre I know!!

Katie said...

Oh WOW! I forgot about the lifting the feet thing!! Haven't done that in years! :) I also twirl my hair when I'm driving...weird. And now my 3 1/2 boy does too...do you think its me??

Julie Keller said...

A few of my quirks: chocolate makes me thirsty; I'm afraid of movie theatres (either too hot, too cold, not comfy, really dark, afraid someone might attack me); when washing jeans I always button them up; I don't like chocolate and nuts (the only exception is chocolate covered almonds). Hope you don't feel like you revealed too much now!

Renee Zwirek said...

Love the LO! How Fun! Some of my quirks include: I don't eat cooked veggies...I love them cold! I'd rather scrub the toilets in the house than do laundry (my husband is an angel). I like my food to be fully cooked (NO pink please. I have a fear of getting sick or poisoned)...my father-in-law laughed when he asked me how I wanted my pizza when ordering from the restaurant and I said "fully cooked". He said, "What?! I just wanted to know about sausage and mushrooms." While everyone cracked up, I just proudly replied..."I just want it fully cooked is all, Thanks!" I wear socks when I have to, but I'd rather be barefoot.

You are too cute and funny! Can you do a LO of your Guilty Pleasures? I'm so curious...please share! I have a feeling those are even funnier than your quirks!

Anonymous said...

LOL at the Ginger Ale because I only order it when I fly and never even think about it otherwise! Have a great trip and I love the layout.
PS I wish my hair would dry in messy curls. you are blessed!

Sara Ancich said...

I fill a glass of water and bring it with me to bed every night. But I never take a single sip.

It makes my husband crayyyyy ZEEE!

Scrapamum said...

I have 3 different color of dishes to my full dish set. I insist that they be put away in a certain order. My husband hates it.

Michelle said...

Wow! :) What a gorgeous page!! :) Love it to bits!

As for my quirky: I always cut the first piece of cheese off of the block and can't touch it - you know, the wrinkly part. Ugh. lol. Odd, yes.

Happy CHA-ing! :)

Anonymous said...

I love Reeses Buttercups, but I have to eat it melted. I put it under my thigh when I am sitting. My husband thinks it's disgusting. To each her own, Lol.

I love to smile at myself when I pass a mirror, not to be vain, just a lil' " hey there". Again, husband thinks it's weird.

I still eat fruit roll ups wrapped around my finger. It's fun!

Holly :) said...

I sort my potato chips by size and then eat them, small to big and folded over ones last.

Jill Dater said...

I hate it when socks are put on inside out. It takes everything I have not to make my kids switch them when I see them. A friend's mother would wear her socks on inside out on PURPOSE and it drove me crazy. She has since passed away and I feel like she is looking down and laughing at me when I battle the impulse to make my kids change around their socks.

Olivia said...

Beautiful layout! Have to say I'm with you on the hair, being organized, changing outfits (to suit our very changeable weather) & singing. Other quirks... I need to be doing at least 3 things at once to feel I'm being productive, I only ever drink hot water, even in the summer and I need to know everything is switched off before I go to bed or else I get up to check.

Kelly said...

Tee hee! These are funny reading above!

A quirk of mine is pegs - it feels all wrong if two colours are used together to peg the towels etc up. It must be two purples or two greens for each item, for example. Not one of each.

Unknown said...

My quirk- I scrunch up my toes when im walking barefoot on the grass- always have! The thought of the grass between my toes just makes me cringe lol

Michelle said...

So loving this layout :) My quirk: I need a whole piece of paper towel from the roll, otherwise, it just freaks me out!

Anonymous said...

I hold my breath when I drive by a cemetery and always say the same thing- "I've heard people are dying to get in there." It makes my kids groan. ha! I lift my feet and put my hands on the roof of the car when I go over a bridge. I insist that my children do this too because it makes me laugh to look back at all 9 of them like that. I don't cook which makes Mommy's night to cook a night to go out to dinner. My kids love that.

Sarah Swann said...

Totally scrap-lifting this page idea! Some of my quirks: I hate country music, but love Carrie Underwood. I can't listen to Defying Gravity without singing shamelessly at the top of my lungs. I'm left handed but do so many thing with my right hand. I can't fall asleep without reading for a while first. And I love to travel, but hate flying. Great page, have fun in Chicago!

Cheryl said...

What a great list and beautiful layout!

I don't like socks inside out. I always read a book, do a puzzle, knit, or something else while the tv is on; I can't just sit there. My drawers and closets must be neat as a pin, but the rest of the house will be fine as is. ;o)

Anthonette said...

The layout is amazing, Elizabeth! Your new line looks fantastic.

I loved your quirks. Why are we all ordering Ginger Ale on planes? That's so funny. I did buy some recently, since my little guy got car sick recently on a driving trip to Big Sur and was afraid of our long car trip to Southern CA.

I'm quirky about how dishes are put into my dishwasher. If others load it, I will just re-organize it. I just bought a new dishwasher, so I'm still figuring out how I want to put dishes in. Quirky!

I hate when the guys put clothes in the laundry that are inside-out. I will fold them and put them away inside-out, since I hate to spend time "fixing" them.

I'll only eat bananas at the perfect ripeness. I can't stand putting banana slices in my Special K if they are too soft.

I don't scrapbook yet, but thanks for the inspiration to document my quirks.

Jill said...

My house could be a dive and I spend 15 min. w/ toothpick cleaning a switch plate.

Jenn said...

I'm the same way with laundry. Once it comes out of the dryer, I lose all ambition. I'm content just picking what I need out of the dryer or a pile of clothes, but eventually I get around to folding it because I feel bad.

Dani said...

Oh, this is too funny! I love your list of quirks! Here's a few of mine... I MUST close closet doors or drawers that are hanging open, even if it's at a friend's house. :) I'm right-handed but I simply can not blow my nose with my right hand! Too often I laugh till I cry, and everybody thinks I'm really crying. And I can't swallow round vitamins - only the oval-shaped ones. I've hated thunderstorms since I was a little girl and still sleep with my fingers in my ears when there is one. :)
Thanks for sharing, and I hope CHA is a total blast! Can't wait for the pictures, and can't wait to get all the new lines!!!

JennV said...

I ask for ginger ale on planes too! I think there must be something in the air on a plane that makes you crave ginger ale!

I liked the one about the railroad tracts. That is very quirky and cool.

My quirky thing is that I air kiss every yellow and red light as I go through it. Usually I don't go through too may red ones though. :)

danielle said...

Hope you have a great time!
One quirk, I hate water in my ears-when I shower I plug my ears with my fingers when my head is underwater Same for swimming-which makes swimming hard...

Neicee said...

I can't help rearranging the dishes when someone else loads the dishwasher. I will not eat my meal with a salad fork, I must have the "Big" fork. I count the steps when I am going up or down the stairs. I cut up my salad into small pieces, which I didn't know was weird, but several people said they just "fold" the lettuce.

Mindy said...

I have to suck on m&ms.
Then I chew.
No chewing and crunching right away, that would just be wrong.
(I also eat them in color order and in even number.)
Now that I've typed that, that sounds more like OCD, not so much quirky!

Debi said...

Love your page. As usual, your talent astounds me. I love the theme of "quirks" I haven't given much thought to my quirks but one is I can't stand a dirty kitchen. Also I don't drink my water at dinner until my whole meal has been eaten,,,then I drink it! Weird I know...Have a great time in Chicago. My favorite American City. Love it!

Latrice said...

Hmmmm...something quirky about me? The church and car singing one is dead on for me too!! I would have to say that ever since being pregnant for the first time I LOVE the smell of lemon pine sol. Love it I tell ya! My hubby says he's going to wear it as cologne...LOL!

Lydia said...

There are a lot of quirky women out there! : ) I must sleep with the closet door shut. All the way shut and shut my boy's closet as well. I perfer LOTS of ice in my water but must drink it with a straw because its too cold for my teeth. I sleep with my feet outside the covers unless its winter and can never wear socks to bed. Last one, I love flowers and all their fragrance but hate flowery candles, soaps, shampoos, or perfumes.

Enjoy Chicago! I love that city!

Carin McDonough said...

Gorgeous layout and great idea for a layout!
I have loads of quirks lol! I also hate folding washing, I always leave it until it is in a massive pile! I always re-make beds after someone else has made them because they have to be perfect. Cutlery draws must be in the order of knives, forks, spoons or it drives me crazy! I always end up rearanging my moms draws when we stay there! I can't walk around barefoot and must put handcream on every time I wet my hands! Oh and I love the smell of wet sand so I love opening a new packet of potatoes! (used to eat it as a kid before I knew what was in it!) I have loads more but think I should stop there! ;)

NatQuebec said...

ohh I love so much your page. Hope you don,t mind if I make it one like yours. Who don't have any quirks...nobody I think. lol I hate when the kitchen cupboards are left opened, the same thing with wardrobe doors...must have a door problem lol

Anonymous said...

I guess my "quirk" is that I love to do laundry. I love to fold clothes and have them all neat. I even love to hang clothes out on the clothesline! My sister and I laugh that we were raised by the Laundry Queen of America! My husband laughs that he can't remember what he wore the day before because it's laundered and hanging in his closet the next day. My hamper has very little in it!

Katrina said...

I only drink ginger ale on planes too!

Joyce said...

I am a sucker for cookies. We have this cookie bakery in town that is sooo very awesome but it's 26 miles away. I go there at least once every 2 months and stock up but my fam devours them within a week.

I share your laundry aversion. While I love to see zero piles and empty hampers, it's still so hard to focus on finishing it! We have the boys' old playpen set up in our room to hold all the clean laundry that hasn't been folded yet. I confess: the summer clothes sit in there all winter and vice versa! Shameful of me, I know! No one can see our master bedroom because then I have to explain the playpen full of clean clothes!

Missy knits said...

I caught my breath and then laughed when I got to your mention of ginger ale...I am the same way too! Get it every time I am in the air, but never have it on the ground.

I love your layout!!

My quirks - I can't ever sleep with socks on - it makes me feel overheated, even in the dead of winter. And I have to put my makeup on in the same order every day or it feels incomplete. So weird!

Shayne and Leslee said...

Liz--love reading your quirks! I'm going to have to copy your layout for my own! This whole "drink for a flight" thing is hysterical--I, too, always ask for the same drink on a flight and only drink it then, but mine is cranapple juice! I always flex my feet when I read in bed (makes my husband nuts!), I sleep with the blinds open (still afraid of the dark!), I "face" my kitchen every day (turn the paper towel holder, vase of apples, towel on the oven, etc. to face just right!), NEVER leave the house without earrings (big ones!) and only wear my wedding ring when I leave the house!
You are too cute!--Leslee K.

I am super quirky, I am a creature of habit so I will drive the same way to the same place every single time even if it takes longer. I love the clean the bathroom it relaxes me but I hate to vacuum!

i do the ginger ale too!

love the page! what is that punch? I need it!

my quirks...i like to have a drink with me all the time! love that i can take a sip whenever i feel like it!

like to shower before bed. relaxes me, and feels so good to hit my sheets clean! Can't understand my sis who only showers in the am!
have fun in chicago!
anyone know if united has wifi in coach or hookup for laptop power? thanks!

Love the new line Elizabeth!

One of my fabulous quirks?? I love to cook, but I also love to clean. So when I cook, I clean as I go by rinsing utensils & dishes I've used to put in the dishwasher later AND I put away ingredients as I use them. By the time I'm done cooking, I have no mess to clean (except the countertop!). I have always cooked this way - my mom hated it when I was a kid because I was always putting away ingredients she still neede, lol!

Such a fun idea to scapbook!!! Lets see I have alot of quirks, I cannot stand to see a painting/picture not staight on the wall, I am an extreme organizer, my food cannot touch on my plate, and I will drink milk out of a glass then that glass cannot be used for another beverage, I have to get a new glass if I drink something different, say iced tea.
I Love your layout!! Have fun at CHA!

said...

LOVE this page! Can't wait to make one of my own! I have many quirks but the one that comes to mind now is that I always have to check under the bed before getting in at night...and announce to my husband that no one is under there! He thinks I'm nuts.

definitely ginger ale when flying.
i change several times/day also (i owe it to my other clothes).

oh.....and the toilet paper has to come from over the top of the roll.

And I thought I was the only one who had a strange addiction to ginger ale on airplanes! Only place I drink it too! ;) LOL

Love this gorgeous layout! Can't wait to see more of your new releases!! :)

Lora Oliver said...

I love the LO!!! So lovely. I have a number of odd habits from eating things like M&M's only in evens and matching colors to reading magazines from the back to the front. Oh, the worst is my socks. Ever since I was a little girl, the seam MUST be straight across my toes before I can put my shoes on and must stay that way or I have to readjust.

Carolyne said...

I change my outfit at least twice a day too, and I love love love love cinnamon rolls! But, they have to have lots of cinnamon...like cinnabon's. It's kind of a weird, snobby pet peeve...I despise when people brag about their cinnamon rolls, and there is hardly any cinnamon in them. It always triggers an irked feeling for some odd, unexplainable reason.

I never blow dry my hair either, but it's not messy curly...it's messy frizzy. Oh well.

Hmmm...what else???

I like eating with a small, heavy fork. I hate eating with a super heavy long fork.

Wen said...

So many smiles in this post!!
I always seem to read magazines backwards, love washing as it's calming(My Mum is the same) but with 6 in the house I can never keep up with it all. Wondering how a Mother of 9 doesn't cook?? Whats the secret? ha ha, another quirk is that I have a coffee each morning & check out this blog, it is my favorite, also I can never sit still when on the phone, have to be doing something. Thanks for sharing your blog with us & safe travels.

Chris said...

I have lots of quirks too. When I have to go across a bridge I speed up, when I was little I would always tell my Dad to drive faster over the bridge. When I get excited I rub my hands together really fast (my oldest daughter does the same thing). The toilet paper has to be hung a certain way and it it is not I will change it (even when I say in a hotel I do this).
I may have to do a quirks layout also. thanks for sharing and the inspiration.

Queen of Bristol said...

I also would like to know which butterfly punch/die you use.
I sort my paper by the following categories:
*Too precious to use
*paper for special occasions & layouts (which never occur so I never use that either)
*everyday paper which I do use on layouts
*paper which I can stand to give away meaning it's ok to use them for cards or gifts as they won't be in my house any longer

I have never been able to figure out why... but sometimes when I get a new magazine, I read it from cover to cover BACKWARDS. It makes absolutely no sense to me, but I can't seem to stop. I read books the normal way, and can't stand to peek ahead. I get furious when anybody spoils the ending of a movie or book for me. I feel violated and would give anything to take the knowledge back.
