the day she was born

Remembering a neat story about the day she was born 8 weeks ago today. The day she was born we were in awe, once again, at the peace a baby brings.
The day she was born the weather man predicted the storm of the year in Utah County. It was supposed to be epic. Everyone was getting home and preparing for what the next couple days would bring. The nurses at the hospital were chattering about the snow that would fill the streets, wicked wind... chaos at best.
As I looked out the window I pictured snow piled up around us only the abominable snowman could survive. I pictured wind so fierce the wicked witch of the west would float by on her bicycle. How could this storm really be that bad? I couldn't believe that they had to cancel all the schools including two universities, now that is unheard of.
One of our nurses said she brought clothes and planned on staying at the hospital, "there's no way I'll make it home tonight." Outside the sky was dark and grey as we waited for Lola and we waited for this stellar storm.

Then she came.

But the storm never came. Not a snowflake fell from the sky surrounding us, instead, it was peaceful all around. A Quiet and serene day just for her arrival.
Eight weeks ago today.

She's beautiful! I laughed. Because my "baby" should have came in a storm too. But she's a STORM all her own. Or better known as the "Pink Diva" around here. Hee hee!

That's great, I had a similar experience when My Whitney was born on 9/13/01. TWO days after THE 9/11. The hospital was PACKED! It looked like a traffic jam in the nursery and I stayed in the pediatrics ward because Mother/Baby was full. I walked down the hall for a shower etc. But you know, it was so amazingly peaceful. I refused to watch the coverage of the sad events because my life was all about Whitney Jane Woods and not what terrorists had done to our country two days before. The really sucky thing is that my husband's bday is on 9/11 (same as Miss Margie ;) but he's gotten over it, we've done some creative things with our celebrating.

What struck me in this post is that when we emailed out the good news that Little Miss Whitney (who is 9 now) was born healthy and safe and sound all of our family and friends rejoined in an extra big way because that was some really great news to get in that moment. I think about those times and it is so vivid. In fact, we watched the 1 year stuff on tv and cried our eyes out because we didn't mourn that time in 2001. We couldn't, we had a baby to celebrate. But we sure boo hoo'd that next year. Amazing how God gives you that abilty.

Thank you for posting your beautiful story. A wonderful way to start my day, having read this.

My daughter's birth story is a bit different. She was born during the huge snow storm 2 years ago, here in NH. We had been home 2 nights with no power. (I was miserable.) Finally, we found a place that still had an open room, packed up, brought the dogs, and stayed at a BnB with power. Though most were still without power, ours was back on after 3 nights and 4 days.

The day our power came on, we were home a few hours, and our Sylvia decided she was ready to appear. Off to the hospital.

Six weeks early, born during a stressful storm, and born in distress. She was in the NICU for 2 weeks.

Even with all that, there was a sense of peace.

Even though we were scared and in shock, it was a beautiful moment.

Our precious girl's entrance to our world was extraordinary, just like her.

Beautiful story on Lola's arrival. I have a similar story about my son's birth 13 months ago. I'm from the Houston area, so if you just mention snow, the entire city freaks out. My water breaks at 3:30 am Friday, December 4 and what is the forecast for the day?? Snow - not only a rarity for the area, but the earliest snow in like 50 years. The difference between our stories is that it did snow that day. Such a day it was...trying to figure out how much longer my first born would take to show himself, trying to figure out how long till the roads were undriveable (takes about an inch of snow here), reminding the nurses, my husband, and my doctor "hey I'm having a baby here and yeah, the snow is nice", wondering who was going to be around to help me thru delivery as the hospital staff was being told to go home, and then he came and all was as it should be....

I still can't get over how chubby she was when she was born! And how you still look like a movie star right after giving birth!
I've had 6 children and I never looked like that :)
Happy Belated New Year to you and your family-
Gretchen

Jules,
you are cute! The backsplash is from my bro-in-law who worked for a tile company. But, I even saw something similar at Lowes. I'll check and see if I can find something online to link you to.

Thanks! Hugs!!

This is really the perfect presentation of a proud mother's feelings.Whenever I behave rudely with my mom, she always says that you will understand my feelings, when you will become a mother too. Its so nice to know about your baby. Congratulations dear.
