Happy Birthday Mr Kartchner!

Thirty one years ago God knew exactly what this world needed... so he put together the perfect combination of funny, caring and handsome (and threw in a dimple) to make Collin!
It's unfair to to leave out his other incredible qualities... especially on his birthday... but here's more proof of the funny bones that fill his body.

(Recent Facebook updates)
If I'm talking to someone and they're looking at their phone like normal people do, then all the sudden they "look up" and "make eye contact" with me, what do I do then? Help me out, guys.

In hell, the lights are off and you have to walk barefoot over a floor covered in your kid's Legos.

Besides being forced to smell Rush Limbaugh's radio chair seat cushion, what is your biggest fear?

Tempurpedic seems like the mattress brand of choice if you're married to a glass of wine.

I can't believe I spent 7 years writing the perfect song, only to find out someone already used the lyrics, "Chickity China, the Chinese Chicken" :(

Sometimes when I'm busy coloring at a crowded airport while CNBC is on the TV, I put my crayons down, look at the screen and yell, "Extrapolate!" just to look really smart.

I just saw a bumper sticker that said, "R.I.P America, 1776-2009" and now I'm sitting here crying cuz I didn't know America was even sick.

I'm still picking dried pieces of LA Looks Mega-Hold out of my hair from 5th grade.

I'm a pretty easy-going guy, until you challenge me to an underwater handstand contest. Then, I don't freaking mess around.

I get nervous around venomous snakes and people with extremely square jaw-lines.

I've spent that last 14 years in fear that the rhythm is gonna get me.

You'll never have to worry about me telling people to put they hands in da air.

Whenever the grocery store cashier asks, "Find what you needed?" I pull a worn picture of Yanni from my pocket and sigh, "Not everything."

If you wish, you should friend request him on Facebook since tragically he's not on twitter anymore.
Happy Birthday Coll! xoxo

Liz isn't feeling well so I took over the blog.
Strangers ask me all the time, "Collin, how is your wife so creative?" or "Hey man, where are you going with my shoes?"

It's taken years for Liz to finally let me share with you where she harnesses some of her creative mojo from. Popeye ate spinach, Gummy Bears drank Gummy Bear juice, Chewbaca ate Necco Wafers (this has yet to be proven).

The Big Three Oh! (hijacked by Collin)

Before we delve into the celebratory festivities, here's an actual conversation we had early this morning:

(3:44am)

(Baby starts crying. Cue baby)

Lola: "WAAAAHHH...WAH!! WAAAAH!! Will someone give me some friggin' milk for cryin' out loud and wipe the poop off my toosh?!!" (she's already conversing well at just 5 months)

(I abruptly end my dream of riding Falcor from the Neverending Story RIGHT when the bullies are about to jump in the dumpster, drag myself out of bed and pick said crying baby up. I lay Lola down next to Liz, walk around the other side, stub my toe on the portable stair stepper that wasn't put away, and flop back on the bed.)

(baby stops crying, 45 seconds goes by)

Liz (whispering): "Collin....Coll....Collin?"

Me: "What?"

Liz: "Can you die from a rattlesnake bite?"

Me: "Uh...yeah, if you don't get to a hospital in a couple days."

Liz: "Oh...okay."

Me: "Wha??"

Liz: "ZZZZZzzzzzz......"

It's MAY 4th people!! Liz is 30!!

Adios twenties. (cue Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart") It's been a fun and very busy 2 decades for Liz. Let's recap, shall we?

1981: Born. Learned her first awesome trick, "I can hold your finger while I poop! YAY"
1982: Started walking. Sort of.
1983: Found her eyes, ears, mouth and nose.
1984: "You are super duper pooper! You can potty with the best!" ($5 for whoever knows what song that's from)
1985: Preschool: ABC's and eating delicious glue on a popsicle stick. (I actually got an invitation from my preschool teacher inviting me to my 25th Preschool Renunion. There's no way I'm going though, I've put on like...160 pounds since then
1986: Kindergarten
(skip along to the juicy stuff)
1993: Jr. High. Cut bangs. LOL'ed with BFF's all day. Way cute Keds. Decided to do something about rampant Tooth Fairy robberies and got braces (Anti-theft devices) Slow danced to "Lady in Red" with an 8th grader wearing Girbaud jeans and a striped Guess T-Shirt.
1996: Freshman year of H.S. Walks in on first day, sees pimple faced sophomore boy with heinous clear braces (that was me).
1996: Dad dies unexpectedly from diabetes complications. Leaves 5 kids under 15 and a wife. The Lord steps in and takes the wheel.
1997: Pimple faced sophomore boy is now cleared up faced Junior (thanks Neutrogena!) Boy gets the guts to ask Liz out to Homecoming dance. Buys a gallon of ice-cream and a shovel, sticks shovel in ice-cream with a note "I'd DIG it if you came to Homecoming with me!" and doorbell ditches Liz's house. (asking to date dances is a Utah thing)
-Liz says yes
1999: High school graduation. Senior trip to California with 7 other friends including the now extremely good-looking college freshman boy.
1999: Boy leaves to Taiwan for 2 years to serve as a church missionary, writes Liz every week (except last month). Tells her she should date whoever she wants while he's gone.
1999 and 2 days later: Boy kicks himself for telling her to date whoever she wants while he's gone.
2001: Boy comes home from Taiwan. Has to scare off current boyfriend.
2001 and 48 hours later: Boy scares off current boyfriend. Liz and boy go see Shrek 1 in the theaters then go to the Bridal Veil waterfalls at dark. Liz is wearing a white shirt with white capris (she'll kill me for this, she SWEARS it wasn't white-on-white but some light blue shirt....whatever. I know what I saw :) Boy and girl sit on park bench. Boy asks girl "Can I kiss you?" Girl says "Uh...yeah?"
2002: Boy and girl get married. (release flock of white doves)
2002: Boy and Girl buy a 750 sqft. condo in Orem, UT. Great neighborhood. Boy's car stereo gets stolen twice, and tires get stolen once.
2002-2005: working, going to school. Boy thinks he wants to be a dentist. Girl thinks she wants to work at juvenile correctional facility.
2005: Boy fails miserably at becoming a dentist. Girl pursues hobbies that don't want to stab her.
2006: Baby #1 is born. Avery shakes up the very threads of our lives (in a very good way)
2006: Sell condo and move to new home.
2006: Liz wins "Scrapbooker of the Year" and throws us into a new whirlwind of crafting craziness.
2008: Baby #2 is born: We can do this...
2010: Baby #3 is born: What were we thinking....?

It's been a great 29 years for this girl. She's finally grown into that huge teethy smile of hers, and grown into an incredibly beautiful wife and mother. Sometimes I pinch myself (then I pinch her butt because I LOVE pinching) that I'm married to her. It's not all Oreo's and milk all the time, life throws everything it can at you, but we hold together and make it through (and then make-out to some Boyz II Men).

Happy 30th Birthday to my widdle-chin, my wild stallion, my Lizzy Bear.

Guess who has "Unbreak My Heart" stuck in their head all day now? YOU do.

A Tribute (hijacked by Collin)

Liz is sitting here by me feeding our little Lola-bug as I type this. We haven't gotten much sleep this week, but then again, we haven't had a good night sleep since 2006. Sometimes I ask people who don't have little kids to tell me tales of "sleeping through the night" while I sit at their feet in disbelief. "What mythical creature is this..."alarm clock"? You mean a machine wakes you up?!"

Those of you who have read this blog for more than a couple weeks know there's 2 things I rarely am, and they're both "serious." But, today I wanted to share this glimpse with all of you, something that is very sacred and special to me. It's a video I made of Lola's birthday.

How do you capture the million emotions of waiting to bring a child into the world? Anxiety, nervousness, fear, anticipation....peace. We often talk about a curtain being placed over our eyes when we come to this Earth, something that makes us forget who we are, where we came from, who we were with. If we took that knowledge with us to this life, what would be the point?

A few times, sacred times, that curtain is thin. Very thin. So thin that for a brief moment there is no difference between the heavens and the earth. You feel the presence of our Creator, family members who have passed on before us....family members who have yet to join us. I think if we're lucky, we'll get maybe just a couple of those experiences in this lifetime that will feel almost like deja-vu. Our eyes will be opened from this mortal life...a life that is hard. Life that is stressful. Life that thickens our skin and makes us cynical and unsure of who we are. Last Tuesday at 5:11pm and the hours leading up to that moment, that curtain was thin, and all who were present could sense it.

Liz and I have dear friends who cannot, for some reason or another, bring children into this world. They are wonderful people who have cried their share of tears from this. They deserve just as much as anyone the chance to experience it. I don't know why we can when others cannot. All I know is they will, someday, and it may not be in this life but when they do it will be just as special and sacred a moment as ever.

I have a deep gratitude for what my wife has gone through for our family, and for all of you mothers, both current and one-day-will-be mothers who are reading this. I wasn't sure if this was too special to me to share with you all, but something told us we should. I've turned off the comments because I just want you to enjoy it. If you really would like to tell me what you thought, I'd love to hear from you. (pixelpopphotography@gmail.com)

♫ Let's talk about Give-a-Way...♫ (hijacked by Collin)

...Let's talk about you-and-may....♫ (British accent makes it rhyme)

So most of you know my wife has put on a liiiiiitle bit of stomach weight these past 9 months which she just informed me is a actually a BABY and she's not hiding a post-Halloween jack-0-latern under her shirt (phew). She has been incredible these last 39 weeks and deserves a break from picking winners hence moi gets to do it. Embarrassing story? I once saw asked a woman if she was fat, and she said "NO, I'M PREGNANT!" (whoops and JK) This turkey is set pop out the oven 2 days before Thanksgiving so if everything goes as planned, we'll be enjoying HOSPITAL FOOD on Turkey Day!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhh.....

And just for the record, I'm not one of those husbands who walks around telling people, "WE're pregnant". What's all that "WE" stuff? SHE is pregnant, not me guys, so why do some men say "WE are pregnant"? I do that mainly because I don't want her walking up to a group of her friends and saying, "WE have been chewing on a toe-nail clipping for 20 minutes." I...*I* have been chewing on a toe-nail clipping for 20 minutes. Sheesh.

Oh, I have a question for you all: out of 756 comments NOT ONE OF YOU SAID YOU WERE THANKFUL FOR COLLIN?!?!?! Really ladies, after ALL these years? One person *did* mention my name, but not a single ounce of gratitude? (epic eye roll). I would've picked everyone to win who said "I am thankful for Collin and his slanted chin".

Lesson learned, ladies?
Now, if you DIDN'T WIN anything today, please do NOT get angry and throw you're computer out the window. Bright side? At least your name isn't Eunice Bumsniffer. (glass is half full, people).

Beautiful post as always and a gorgeous giveaway, you are a dear soul:) I hope that baby bump is being kind and you are getting plenty of feet up time. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia, but I am grateful for many things... one being the cherished moments with my delicious twin girls (now 5), who graced us way too early with their presence during my short lived 6 month pregnancy, they are a true blessing and one that I am grateful for each and every day.

Make sure to email your address to elizabeth.kartchner@gmail.com and each sponsor will ship out your prize!!

That was fun. I'm bored now.

Made a video for my wife...(hijacked by Collin)

Hello people of Bloggertonville,

It's me Collin. Most of you know me as "that guy with the slanted chin" or 'Ricky the extra' from the well-known documentary "Andre the Giant: We Barely Knew Thee".

Well, we had a fire-sale of all our old camera gear and upgraded to a Canon 5D Mark Deaux from our Hasidic Jewish friends at B&H Photo in the City of York but Newer. As some of you know I shoot photos for phun and most the pics on this here blog are snapped by moi. I'm like a fat guy at a lunch buffet concealing his enthusiasm by saying, "Let's see what we have here" about the fact that the new camera shoots 1080P high-def with 1.21 jiggawatts of power running a 6.7L 454-small block to the rotary gurter, i.e, it's frickin awesome!

I made my first video with it this month. It's kind of a story of my wife. And kids. I thought I'd share it. Shot up the canyon behind our house with a 35mm 1.4 lens and a home-made stabilizer (still a bit shaky but cool effect). Edited in plain old iMovie in a couple hours. If any of you local Utahns would like a similar family video, let me know. I'd trade 1000 photos for a 5 minute heart-warming video. Email me if you're interested.

Liz means everything to me. She's an incredible mother. A deep and special person. I wanted to capture a piece of that.

Enjoy....

♫ I picked a winner and I liked it...♫ (hijacked by Collin)

What up ladies.

And you.

Hey you....dude....yes, you...guy sitting there in the green shirt that says, "You're just jealous the voices don't talk to you". Time for a shower bro.

My little Lizard Breath is tired from "growing a child in her tummy" so I'm picking the winner for this EPIC giveaway. Pregnancy is something I'll never understand. I've heard it's like eating Asian food everyday for 9 months. True story: I once ate Indian food everyday for a week, and let me tell you, go eat Indian food for 5 days in a row and only then will you realize in their culture why they can pray to more than one God.

So, Liz just said "could you pick a winner?" but what I heard was "go write whatever you want on my blog without getting thrown in jail later for it" so here. we. are. ladies.
Do you ladies know what it's like to be a dad? It's not easy. I'm trying to be a good dad though, give my kids the chance to experience all that life has to offer. Trying to teach them to be polite, cuz there's SO many rude people out there. For example, the other day I told Avery, "Look, if you're ever talking to someone who has really stinky breath, don't be rude and say, "Hey, your breath stinks" just walk up to them....and kindly ask, "Hey, did you eat poop for breakfast?"
SO much better, right?
I'm trying to teach them survival skill, because you never know when they're going to need them. I.E., the other day we were camping and I looked at my kids and said, "Look, if you're ever lost out in the woods without a compass, and you don't know which way is North, there's a REALLY easy way to figure that out in the forest that I learned in Boy Scouts. All you have to do is look around, and find the nearest DirectTV satellite dish on a house, because satellite dishes ALWAYS FACE SOUTH. Then, just turn around, and THAT is the North Star.

And...if you're ever on the roof-tops of London, NEVER EVER start yelling, "STEP IN TIME!" or crazy stuff is gonna happen.

I'm like Bear Grylls meets Mary Poppins of dad...hood. Anyways, I feel like I'm monologuing. Am I monologuing?

Let's pick this winner, shall we?
So, this winner is going to get a gihugant box of awesome scrapbook stuff, AND....maybe I'll poke some holes in the cardboard and give you our dog Mookie too. (I can't stand him, he gives me looks like "You're not my dad" and "Remember that one time you fed me an entire bag of Cheetos?"

And the Winner of this Dear Lizzy giveaway goes to....
ME.
LOLJK! GIVE IT UP FOR THE BRACKET ANNE-INATOR CLOSED BRACKET!!!!!!

{Anne} said...

Oh I do love that feeling of fresh and clean when things have gone wild in my craft room so way to go you! And can I add that bust with ribbon on it is adorable beyond belief. Clever idea!
I am celebrating the rest of this summer. It has slipped right through my fingers this year and I am so sad there in only 3 weeks until school starts for my babe.
I am crossing my fingers and toes(not that I can cross my toes but I am going to try hard) on this giveaway! Your stuff is delicious!
Thanks for this chance :)!

Email your information to Liz and she'll send me to the post office like Princess Buttercup and I'll probably say, "As you wish."

Happy Birthday Collin!

Thirty years ago God was in a very good mood when he sent Collin down to Earth. He knew exactly what the world needed...

Someone who could do a great James Stewart impression, "You want the moon? Say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it."

Someone who would live in Taiwan for 2 years and change their lives forever.

Someone who could sing the high note for the Oliver play in 5th grade.

Someone who could handle 3... almost 4 dramatic girls.

Someone who takes great pride in his keen police-dodging skills when his plates are expired.

Someone who could do a tantrum black flip to a blind-slide 180 on a wakeboard to swoon Liz Brown into liking him.

Someone who recognizes the importance of teaching our kids the proper way to eat an Oreo.

Someone who could have Cleetus McDuffy as an alter ego.

Someone who would wake up at 6 am with the kiddos so momma can get some more sleep.

Someone who can find the greatest joy in a delectable Shirley's raspberry roll.

Someone to teach a boy a lesson when he saw him shoplifting a laffy taffy from the grocery store.

Someone who let's his daughters pile-drive him to the stomach and jump on his head because they think it's fun.

Someone who's biggest goal in life is to take care of his family and make sure they're happy. (Well, that goal is exceeded everyday...!)

Someone to post hilarious Facebook updates about the randomest things to give us a chuckle during our work day.

Just before God was finished... He threw in a dimple in that smile and an espionage-like instinct for good measure.

I remember our first date when I was 15, he gave me a silk rose bud from the dinner table. I put inside my heel and walked funny the whole night so I could keep it.

I remember when we were first married and I couldn't wait to open my eyes in the morning and see his cute face... things haven't changed. Well, he has 10 grey hairs. But even better because I knew I'd be with him when we were old and grey.

Man, I love this boy! Happy Birthday!

And just for fun some of my favorite tweets of his:
A good rule of thumb is for every 1 minute I can't hear my kids playing, they've done $500 worth of damage.
Sure, I always envisioned spending the last day of my 20's watching "Goofy Movie" my 2 kids, one of which who just pooped in the bathtub.
One thing I remember most about my grandpa is that he was such a proponent of change, and kept at least $36 worth of it in his trousers.
Guys, if you let weeds overtake your lawn and just mow it on the lowest setting, it still looks like grass. #heretohelp
My 4yr old found a 2-foot snake in our backyard and now I have to explain to her why daddy sometimes screams like Dora the Explorer.
I just saw a bumper sticker that said, "R.I.P America, 1776-2009" and now I'm sitting here crying cuz I didn't know America was even sick.
I'm pretty good at pointing out dogs in the back of trucks to everyone else in the car.
At my current rate, I'm 3 years away from being the guy who calls the cops on my neighbors lighting fireworks past 9pm.
If Cheetos had omega-6 in them, my kids would be doing derivative calculus.
I could probably give more responsibilities to a couple of my toes.

price check on aisle 4

Remember my nerdy snow angel pictures and I challenged you guys to take some self-timer photos. Well, it only gets worse folks...
Saturday night was date night.
Which means that the couple short hours where we are not taking care of kids is an excuse to act like kids.
Hence, taking photos with Strawberry Nesquick & a pineapple.
We choose the less trafficked aisle... the juice aisle. Only a few people came through to pick up their prune or apple juice. I don't think anyone noticed my camera mixed in with the Hot Cocoa but I did get a couple strange looks. Which actually was nothing compared to the strange looks we got when Collin was blaring Lady Gaga and driving through the parking lot 3 times with the windows down hollering, "where da club at?" to a group of teenage kids. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was worse. When it came down to it, it was much easier to ask him to pose at the grocery store after the crazy parking lot episode. Yes, I was ducking and hiding in the passenger seat at the time.

We took three quick shots at different levels of the shelves to get the whole dorky scene. Then layered them to create one dorky photo. Definitely fun because I will never forget this night.

Tweet #936: Then I hitched a ride to the car... that's what happens when you go grocery shopping in heels.

(hijacked by Collin)
Bored.

Kids are napping, at the same time...I've been looking forward to some free time, cuz I have a million things to do: clean the house, take the clothes out of the wash that now smell like mildew and spray a gallon of Febreze on them, scrape dried Chex off the floor beneath Quincey's high chair because 14 month olds feel inclined to drop all unwanted food, maybe finish painting the kitchen cabinets so we can finally take the tape off the walls and put handles back on the drawers .........but all I can muster up energy for is...uh...looking at blogs?

Liz is bringing home the bacon at CKU and I am officially Stay-at-Home-Dad...for 3 days. I thought I'd share some of my experience, I mean, isn't that what blogs are for? Everyone in the world is anxious to read what's in my diary, right? "Dear Diary, sorry it's been sooooooooo long since I last wrote..." Why do we feel we need to apologize to a book?

Here it goes:
Thursday Night- Sleep? What's that? What does that word even mean anymore? REM cycle? Is that the name of their new comeback CD?

4:39am- Avery comes in and lays on the bed, perpendicular to me with her feet on my face. She must've dreamt she was Michael Phelps doing a 354,000 meter butterfly cuz the kicking never stopped.

6:15am- Both kids up. Go to kitchen, unscrew 2 sippy's. Smell the cups and get a nice lung-full of half rotten milk. Grimace, as if I were expecting to smell fresh tulips. Clean sippys, fill to brim with milk, turn on PBS and fall back asleep on the couch.

6:17am- Avery is too into the show to want to walk all the way down to the hallway bathroom so she pp's on the carpet.

6:18am- Ask her "Hey, where does PP go?!"........."Inna Potty!" she replies.

6:18:05am- back to sleep

6:21am- go to the kitchen, get out the oatmeal, forget to put any in the bowl and microwave empty bowl for 90 seconds. Pull out piping hot empty bowl, realize there's no oatmeal in it, try again.

6:39am-Put Quincey in her high chair, slice up a banana. Face her towards the window, so that when she is done eating she'll look outside for at least 20 more minutes before crying and give me more time to waste time on the computer.

6:41am- Add way too much brown sugar to the oatmeal, and commence my daily attempt of Mid-Flight Re-Fueling: I chase Avery around and try to spoon food into her mouth. This is an exercise in futility.

7:01am- Give up on feeding Avery and change the channel to "Sid the Science Kid". Try to understand the purpose of the "Gerald" character on that show. Hyperactive ADD kid? Hmmmm... government conspiracy?

7:05am- Turn on computer. My heartbeat starts to increase as I see all the new posts on my Google Reader. I spend 45 minutes reading about successful business owners, entrepreneurs, and MLB players, meanwhile constantly asking myself, "How do they manage to do it all? I swear they're totally faking it."

7:50am- Quincey starts losing interest in the lawn and dying bushes out front and starts whining. I cave and break up some dry cookies from Sunday. Go back to computer.

8:35am-fill bathtub to 1.5 inches since that stupid "Parents Aware" commercial on drowning kids scared the heck out of me.

8:55am- bathwater starts getting cold. Drain cold water, refill with warm, and start bath time over.

9:15am-fresh diaper/undies and clothes for the kids. Avery is wearing yellow plaid pants with a shirt my mom got on a cruise that has two cartoon Dalmatians hugging and says, "Croatia" above them.
9:18am-change recently fresh diaper that now is filled with a dozen Milk Dud-like substances.

10:22am- Trip to Costco. I really don't need a bag of 188 rolls of toilet paper, but oh...well...

10:25am- start noticing I am the ONLY male at Costco who is not an employee. Offer a guy $10 for his red vest and name-tage so I feel less awkward.

10:31am- find myself turning into a Costco Food Sampler. The "Sampler People" know who you are. "Uh....what is this? Artichoke hearts? ....Mmmmm....those look delicious, maybe I'll take just one. MMMMMMMmm, those ARE good, let me grab a couple more for my kids (pretend to give them to kids and eat them myself). Uh....what, uh...what isle are these on? Oh...I better go grab a box of those before they're all...gone..."(start walking down the isle until I'm out of site, make a run for the dairy section as I have no intention on buying a 10-gallon drum of artichoke hearts.)

11:18am- trip to the Thanksgiving Point Farm. Again, quickly noticing I am the ONLY dad there.

11:24am- start getting strange looks from all the moms. "Uh, hi...I'm not going to offer your kids candy from the back of my van."

11:25am- make a mental note to call Supercuts sometime, wondering if my curly hair makes me look like a pedophile.

11:34am- give Avery a handful of corn kernels to feed a horse.

11:35am- console a crying Avery after pulling her hand out of stupid hungry horses' mouth. Later notice sign that reads, "Please do NOT feed this horse."

11:36am- look at the clock and think, "Oh my gosh...it's only 11:36am? What am I supposed to do for the next 9 hours?"

12:43am-try to feed Avery the healthy snacks I brought.

12:44am- ditch that idea, go to Iceberg and get a huge strawberry shake. Mentally check one serving off the fruit and dairy food group. Feel good about myself.

12:58pm- Avery is screaming all the way home. Feel bad about myself.

1:47pm- put kids down for a nap. Both have a bad cough so I pull out the Dimetapp. A drop falls on my hand, I taste it, and make a mental note to start giving my sick kids Alexander the Grape Otter Pop juice instead since it's the EXACT SAME THING.

1:48pm- get tempted to give 2 extra drops of cough medicine to each kid after I quickly equated a drop of cough medicine is worth 7 more minutes of sleepy time.

1:55pm- ignore the messes, laundry, bills, and start searching ambiguous terms in Youtube like "funny" or "stupid". Watch Chocolate Rain 11 times and that "Give 'em the evil eye, son" baby 14 times. Notice that the baby is in his car-seat holding an ice cream Drumstick. Feel better about giving my kid a strawberry shake.

4:02pm- both kids are up.

4:11pm- both kids are now crying

4:15pm- muster the energy to unstick my sweaty backside from the pleather office chair and go get the kids.

5:01pm- attempt a fancy dinner of Macaroni and Cheese. Read the box label. "Wait a second, since when did 1 box yield 4 servings?

5:02pm- feel fat

5:15pm-Overcook mac and cheese, put kids in car, and go to Little Ceasar's for a pizza.

5:31pm- hand over $5.39 to a very Gothic looking teenage cashier and leave Little Ceasar's feeling happy, but also ticked off at my parents for some reason.

6:18pm - bored, contemplating recreational/time-wasting options.

6:47pm- desperate

7:08pm- put kids in the car and head for the mall.

7:31pm- another strawberry shake and it's off to the mall playground. Take out 3-gallon bottle of Purell I picked up at Costco earlier that day. Douse kids head to toe.

7:59pm- look at my watch and think, "One more minute....one more minute....one more minute..."

8:00pm- attempt to put two screaming kids in the car. Avery goes into her carseat as easy as a cat goes into a bathtub. I keep wrestling her as concerned passer-bys look at me like I'm an idiot. I start bribing with another strawberry shake. Quincey puts her thumb in her mouth and give me the, "There goes your 'Father of the Year Nomination' look.

8:18pm- singing "I'm just a little girl caught in the middle, life is a game and love is a riddle" song with Lenka on CD, wondering how the heck I have the words memorized.

8:37pm- got home 10 minutes ago but kids aren't asleep yet so keep driving around the neighborhood. Get suspicious looks from neighbors like I'm about to do a drive-by.

8:47pm- kids eyes starting to get droopy. I see an old man with a hose watering his driveway. Don't have the heart to tell him watering his driveway won't make an RV pad suddenly start growing.

9:03pm- kids are asleep. Try to get them into their pajamas without waking up. Wishing I could call Jason Bourne for help.

9:18pm- kids in bed, fans turned on for extra white noise.

9:19pm- back to the computer to check Google Reader. Start wondering what exactly constitutes a full-blown "blog stalker".

10:15pm- Seinfeld re-run. George purposely fails an eye exam so he can get free books on tape. Classic.

Sometime between 11:48-1:23am fall asleep. Get a couple late-night kicks to the face by Avery.

I gotta hand it to you mothers out there, being a SAHM is no easy job. I'm convinced that good parenting is less about turning your kid into a future Harvard protege graduate at age 13 and more about simply making sure you're kids...don't...die. So, for now, I will continue to complain daily about the struggles of being a hard-working husband in hopes that my cover will never be blown.
