On Monday Studio 5, a morning show in Salt Lake, featured a project of mine for their '5 days 5 ways' challenge. The producer sent me Maya Road bingo chips as well as 4 other ladies. Our only guideline was to make anything we wanted that was fresh & fun! I put together a frame with tags strung along vintage lace and banners made from vintage book paper then pinned a tag for each day of the month. I was so nervous! We were trying to hang up the frame when we had just a couple minutes to go. At first it was on a really light background & we wanted to see the tags better so we hung some black fabric behind it. I am not a natural, like Cleetus, when it comes to being in front of the camera... let alone live TV so I felt a bit frazzled when it started. And by 'a bit frazzled' I mean 'scared to death.' ;)
Story Tags: simply add a photo to the front of the tag with a story on the back for each day of the month. Then at the end of the month, you can remove all the tags, connect them with a ribbon or book ring & voila you have a mini book. A great way to capture and document your ordinary moments.
Some days when I was too busy I only wrote something on the back, or I had Avery draw a picture. You can decorate all the tags ahead of time or you can decorate them each day. Whatever works for you.

sisters are the best
Today I was on Studio 5 and this time I told my sisters, Camille, Ashley & even Taimi to come with me. They carried around their flip videos the whole time and said they were making a documentary. They are so cute! Love them so much!
Camille ended up being a model for my segment. I was showing how to make sash belts embellished with handmade fabric flowers... she's wearing one of them. I'll show close ups and more details soon.
Of course during the segment I missed my whole explanation on how to attach them to the sash. :)
Last night I was getting some of the details ready for the show so I asked Collin to choose the winners for the giveaway. So funny- he gave all the winners nicknames. See if you won here.

Spark & Studio 5
Earlier this week we were thrilled when Mindy from Studio 5 (a local morning show) asked us if they could spotlight Spark (our creative event). Mindy asked where we should film the question/answer part of the segment with the 3 of us Spark girls. The answer was easy... Dear Lizzie (a magical little store and bistro. The same place where we had the Spark Soiree & they hosted my Book Party.) It's also the place where we thought of Spark. The 3 of us met for lunch... thinking we would just be chatting... but instead we left with an event ready to plan.
Yesterday I headed up to Studio 5 where they shared our segment about Spark and we talked about 5 tips to Spark Your Creativity. I've been on the show 5 times now and I swear I am still so nervous. My sister was over at my house yesterday and we laughed so hard at some of the funny things I said. Like when my mind went blank... "What do you think Darin?" haha "Shall, I read one?" Trying to pronounce Csikszentmihalyi. Oh, the beauty of live television.
One of the tips I shared was Don't Force It. I explained that something I've adapted into my creative process is to find my inspiration first, then create. I shared a fun idea from Rhonna Farrer. Her 100 creative exercises. She pulls one out of a jar before she sits down to create. They are such great prompts that are quick and definitely proven-if you've seen Rhonna's designs. She sells them on her site so you can enjoy the creative prompts too.
PS Guess what? We confirmed that there will be a Spark No. 2 and yet again we were ecstatic when we imagined the new theme and details.

corsage tees please
This morning I was on Studio 5 with Brooke Walker talking about the fabulous fashion trend of having pretty handmade fabric flowers and ruffles on simple tees. I made 4 different examples with some awesome techniques. I totally forgot to grab jeans when I left my house this morning so I made a quick detour to my sister's house. (Camille always saves the day.) Then she curled my hair even and sent me on my way. I will have to share the different ideas here because I think you will absolutely love them! Plus, they're super easy.

Studio 5
First off, are you kidding me with that last post?! I was dieing laughing when I finally got a chance after CKU to read Confessions of a SAHD! lol! That was hilarious and definitely sounded like a typical day... for the most part. Thanks Collin for being Super Dad & giving us all a laugh!!
This morning Collin and I drove up to KSL because I joined Brooke Walker at the Studio 5 set to chat about the monogrammed wall that she saw on my blog a couple months ago. She brought a faux wall to the studio where I hung up some pictures and Ks. I was a little nervous thinking about how I would recreate it in the studio but it turned out super cute, actually even cooler than the one I have at home. haha!
I also talked about how to cover your own wood letters you can find at craft stores with fabric & the best places to find letters. That's my favorite part-the hunt for the letters- because once you start collecting you will see them everywhere and they each have a story and meaning behind them.
Oh, and I also shared this tip from Martha Stewart because whenever I want to decorate a wall Collin gets this funny look on his face because his perfectly painted wall will now have tonz of holes in it... so use this tip to avoid all the 'oops' when hammering nails.
The clip isn't up online but I will let you know when it gets posted. Loved working with Brooke again-she is a sweetheart & of course Darin.

simple things
Today I was on Studio 5 via telephone for a few minutes to talk about monthly merriment. It's a peek into the simple things I love at the moment. After the show I realized I haven't shared April yet.
(Jellies from Old Navy, thread, a cute apron from Lucy at Scrap Etc, new plant symbolizes the new life springtime brings, Lenka cd (Avery is singing her songs now-so cute), this book that is FULL of inspirational quotes and questions with journaling spots. (Love all the books by Dan Zadra.) Scarlet Lime paper & Martha Stewart strawberries, Studio G letter stamps & Anthropologie bowl.
Reading Avery books from when I was a little girl and my first dogeared necklace--very cool/inspiring jewelry... I've been wanting one forever but it's much more fun when it's a gift. (thanks, you know who you are...xo)
Collin lived in Taiwan for a couple years while serving a mission and said people there absolutely love lotus flowers because of their symbolism... The quote that came with this lotus fower necklace inspired me after reading your many wishes & then even more when I found out yesterday that someone very close to me has been diagnosed with cancer...
"Lotus flowers grow from muddy swamps into beautiful symbols of creation & rebirth..." remember your own beauty and strength.

This was the second time I was on Studio 5 and it could quite possibly be the scariest 7 minutes and 33 seconds ever! :)
But really... the whole experience was a blast & Brooke Walker is SO great to work with!
This segment focused on 'how to dress up a basic tee with fabric.' I loved designing the different shirts with some of my favorite fabric from Sandi Henderson & Amy Butler. Do you love the little mannequin that GAP let me borrow? It was cute because it was just about Avery's size. :)

Live from Salt Lake...It's Studio 5
What were you doing on October 27th at 11:10 am? Well if you were watching channel 5 (and if you lived in Utah:) then you would have caught me on our local morning show. The fabulous Brooke Walker asked me to do a scrapbooking segment & even though I get really nervous in front of the camera, I said Yes. Plus, it's Brooke Walker! You don't say no to her;) Come to find out, despite my nervousness, it's so easy to talk about something that you love and are passionate about.
I shared one of my favorite articles that I concepted for Creating Keepsakes July issue. It was a blast!
Nervous? Yes. :)
