a SMASHing good time

"Don't smash until 1 in the morning." That was the last thing I heard before Collin went to bed last night. And I listened to his counsel because this girl needs her sleep but, man, once you start you can't stop... it stings. (name the movie)

Smash books are just like old-school scrapbooks but with rad design on the pages and a mix of all different products from tabs, to tape and journaling pads.
I didn't think they were that cool, at first, but once I started flipping through the pages and adding all the random stuff I've been holding onto for years, I changed my mind.

Why I love it? I already had stuff just sitting in Kolo boxes and Instax laying around so I enjoyed putting it in one place and writing about each little snip it.

This & That: All this stuff has just been sitting in a Kolo photo boxes so, like I said, I loved getting it out and writing about each piece.
Butterfly Confetti from the Coldplay concert, Metro ticket from Paris, an Instax of the girls' sitting at my dad's gravesite on his birthday, 2 cent postage stamp, Real Salt Lake soccer game ticket (the one where we saw David Beckham oohlala;), Eiffel tower tickets (we never did make it to the tippitty top), Avery's first carousel ride ticket, Instax of Mindy Gledhill singing at my birthday party.)

Instax from our drive up the canyon on Sunday. Avery and I picked leaves and glued them down. The tag includes things the girls' said. I just sat there while we drove and wrote all the random things they said. Including, "Look at all those powerful rocks!!"

Instax of Collin's softball game:
More pictures I had laying around:

The flower is covered with clear packing tape to preserve it.

You guys, I'm kind of obsessed. Are you smashing?

I also love Amy Tan's mini book!! The Smashbooks might be out of stock so you should check out Amy Tan's book. It's so cute with all the different layered pages and the spine is sewn together. It's smaller and that could be less intimidating for some. But I love it and am going to dive into that next!

Love your Smash! Yes, I do Smash, and it's wonderful! Sometimes the smash pages turn out to little scrapbook pages, other times its just lots of stash being out together into a mess.

Love getting all those tickets and stuff out of the boxes and into the book :)

Very cute!
Question - are the pictures that you put on there your instagram pics? How do you print those off? Just on your home printer?

My 9 year old daughter has been "smashing" for the last few years now, only I just didn't know it until now! ;-) She is a notebook addict and fills them up with all her little goodies...instax pics, photobooth pics, magazine cutouts, her own drawings and writing and doodles. I LOVE running across one of her notebooks. They are little treasures. This would be a wonderful gift for her!

Love love love!!!!! It reminds me my first pages when I was 12! I always told my vacations and sticked all the tickets (plane, train, bills, restaurants...), photos and everything about my journeys!

I love Smash, don't have the book yet but I do have some of the other products but I do have Amy Tan's book, saving it to make a book for my daughter's 12th birthday party :) You're book is FAB! so cute with so many nice details, love it!

i LOVE this!!!

Im wondering.. .did you have any problems with your pages separating and the book opening with flat pages. the book i got had all the pages sticking together and they would not lay flat, so i ended up cutting the pages out and hooking them together to make my summer album - but id love to get another one to do what you just did - im wondering if maybe i just got a flawed book???

Wow! Your book is awesome! So, are all of those pages in the same book? Do you worry about getting the stuff in chronologically, etc? Or just smash it altogether by topic! I love it!!! I am thinking of all of those boxes of tickets, love notes, etc that I have! (Since DH and I have been together since HS--there is ALOT! LOL) You have just inspired me to clean out those boxes and messageboard hanging in my room! LOL

This is SO fabulous. Did you do the whole book in one night? I looked at that thinking it was a cool idea, but I did not know what things to put in it. Do you think you could use it for kids camping trips? Pictures that they take and the kids could write in it?

Lizzy, I read this post a couple days ago and became OBSESSED with smash books. I got a coupon for 50% off any one item at a local craft store, and was able to buy the medium smash book with it. As someone who has never scrapbooked, and is on a budget what are a handful of supplies you'd suggest I get? I use manila tags to put earrings on in my shop, so I have some of those, but what else? I'm on a major budget but would love to make my smash book half as fun as yours!
